The Randle experiment paid off. But he's also a free agent, and Minnesota might not want to pay him. The Wolves need depth and cap flexibility. Harris and Holland provide that. This also nets them a future FRP, while Holland was the #5 pick last summer. Could Minnesota get more for Randle? Maybe. But maybe not. They're also in a cap crunch and will probably lose Alexander-Walker, if they resign Reid.
Detroit gambles here. But Randle could be a great fit next to Cade, Ivey, Ausar and Duren. He's also two years younger than Tobias, a better passer and rebounder, and can facilitate the offense when necessary. And while extension eligible, Detroit can wait until next summer. If Randle walks, they'd open up $30M in cap space. But at a minimum, he could be used in a sign-and-trade. Holland is a prospect and could be great. But Randle is an upgrade over Tobias, and Detroit could look to take advantage of a weakened conference with Dame and Tatum being out. Lastly, this opens up the cap space to resign Schröder and Beasley.
