Detroit has a log jam at guard right now. They have too many guys who play in the same spots (Cade, Robinson, Jenkins, LeVert, Ivey, Sasser, and Lanier). This move adds an early 2nd round pick to their 2026 draft, adds a sharp shooting wing/forward in Kispert (who comes in using the TPE and would serve as a solid salary matching contract for a large offseason trade), and gets off of Sasser’s $5M contract next season. It’s a win all around for Detroit.

Hawks get off of Trae Young’s contract early with the expiring McCollum contract, add a bunch of 2nds, and land a spark plug off the bench as a perfect complement to Dyson Daniels and NAW with Marcus Sasser being able to play either guard spot and light it up from deep.

Wizards are the real winners here. They have no clear #1 option. Trae Young isn’t the likely long term answer but he significantly raises their floor and provides a solid offensive initiator alongside Sarr, George, and Johnson. They would likely still land a top 5 pick and could see a path back to relevancy soon. All without giving up a 1st round pick!
