If Giannis gets moved to the Heat, Detroit should pounce and get their 7-footer stretch big AND a 2nd option next to Cade. Ware has immense potential and could be the missing piece for Detroit in 2 years. He can be a lob threat, space the floor, and is a better rim protector than Duren right now. Powell is a perfect off ball guard that shoots the 3 ball really well while not giving up too much defensively for Detroit. He also comes in on a team friendly deal (sub $30M) allowing Detroit to make other big moves.
Regardless of Giannis, Detroit should trade for Trey Murphy. Murphy is a 6’8 forward who has averaged over 21 PPG and over 8 3PA on 37% from deep. He is a solid team defender, though not an ultimate stopper but Detroit wouldn’t need him to be. AND he is on one of the best value contracts in the league. Getting a potential #2 option for under $30M would be a steal. Detroit should move Holland and as many picks as NOP want to land this guy. With Murphy AND Powell AND Ware, Detroit would have the spacing needed to allow Cade and Ausar to truly shine.
Detroit also uses their TPE and two 2nds to bring in AJ Green as their Norman Powell backup. He provides additional shooting off the bench and serves as the longer term Duncan Robinson replacement who they should move on from after this season.
Detroit brings back Tobias on a team friendly 2 year deal and take another chance on Javonte Green. The draft a backup 4/5 in Morez Johnson or Chris Cenac and sign a veteran PG to round out their rotation.
