WHY PISTONS

Whether Duren returns or not, there is still an impact that was made by the Pistons losing Isaiah Stewart. It is expected that Paul Reed will fill the void with ease, however, I believe that adding Jalen Smith would help to do that even more. The Pistons are one injury to Paul Reed away from having a void at the center spot. John Collins can play there, yes, but then that becomes a void at the 4 spot. Jalen Smith is a versatile athletic player that can play at either spot and he also has "stretch big" ability. Something that the Pistons could use more of.

WHY PELICANS

As a Pistons fan, not only do I recollect all of the rumors both pre-draft and during certain offseasons that Troy Weaver were interested in Patrick Williams and Okoro, but they also fit as the Pelicans still decide how to move Herb Jones, Zion Williamson, or even Tre Murphy if the right trade comes. Most people feel that Patrick Williams is better suited on the wing as a Small Forward. He'd be pretty good off of the bench whether it be at the 3 or the 4 spot. Also, Okoro is a type of build that Weaver values. Trading away Poole puts the combo of Fears/Murray much more into the driver seat.

WHY BULLS

In drafting Caleb Wilson and signing Nic Claxton, it's clear that it will be harder for Jalen Smith to find real time and carve out a role. The Bulls pivot and add a player who's a scorer and can get his own buckets off of the bench. He's also a nice sized expiring contract at the end of the season. This could make him a trade piece come mid-season or really good cap space next offseason. This move makes room for the future in multiple ways.
