This is on the trajectory of what Windhorst said for a Pistons trade as Avdija is a Bane-type of guy, who is NEVER talked about in trades, but could be available with the right offer. The main reason… his declining contract nearly makes him impossible to resign after it runs out so Detroit would get a 2 year rental while Portland adds to their future.

I like this move for both sides…

For the Trail Blazers, Avdija isn’t their long term top option (though he is a great 2nd or 3rd) and they are a few years away from making a huge splash in the West. If they believe they are 3 years away from being true top contenders, then they won’t have Avdija on this team because of his contract and the inability to extend him. Doing this move now lands them a promising young prospect in Holland while netting three future 1sts. They can let their young talent develop and stock up on draft picks to make the big move when they need to.

Detroit does this for many reasons. One, Avdija could be the perfect #2 option next to Cade and would slide easily into the starting lineup. Meanwhile, Holland hasn’t looked great thus far and is a huge negative on the offensive end. Detroit doesn’t hurt their depth while significantly upgrading their rotation for a finals push these next 3 years. Hopefully they can figure something out with Avdija to get him extended but if not, they are pushing their chips in the middle (for the time being) while keeping their cap extremely flexible for the next few seasons.
