Raptors trade rumours / Early January Raptors News

Raptors Trade Rumours

The Raptors and Kings discussed a Pascal Siakam/Harrison Barnes trade, per @ShamsCharania

“I’m told the Raptors and Kings were in active conversations about a Pascal Siakam trade… revolving around Harrison Barnes. At this point, the only way it ignites is if Toronto comes back to Sacramento.” - Shams (I'm assuming Masai never asked for Keegan but wanted a package of draft capital and they pulled out maybe because Siakam's camp / representation says no, not exactly sure what happened)

"According to league sources, the Kings are not going to trade talented second-year forward Keegan Murray and the Kings – already on the hook for full max deals for Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox – aren’t interested in paying Siakam a full max contract which means any chances of retaining the pending free agent are nil." - Michael Grange (Surely this means that Siakam declined the trade)

The Warriors are reluctant to include Jonathan Kuminga in a potential trade for Pascal Siakam, per Michael Grange

"After losing to the Chicago Bulls in the play-in, a source close to Pascal confirmed that the front office "cut off almost all communication with Siakam last summer, leading the seven-year vet to wonder whether he was being punished." With Siakam in the final year of his contract, this decision comes off as oddly punitive." - Mike Luciano

"As a pending free agent, Siakam holds considerable leverage in what happens over the next month. Now that January is upon us, he is no longer eligible to sign a long-term extension with a team that acquires him mid-season. Before pulling the trigger on a trade, any interested team will be reaching out to Siakam’s representatives looking for some assurance that he’s willing to re-sign with them over the summer. Without those assurances, it’s hard to see any of them giving up that kind of assets the Raptors would need to justify making the move. Meaning that Siakam and his camp can essentially block a trade to a specific destination, or any destination, if they choose. Think of it as a no-trade clause without actually having a no-trade clause." - Josh Lewenberg

"But the chatter among NBA executives surrounding Siakam’s potential landing spots has now centered on Indiana, Sacramento and Detroit... Other teams mentioned, such as Dallas and Philadelphia, don’t appear as viable destinations at this juncture, although Toronto officials have suggested to inquiring front offices as many as 10 teams hold legitimate interest in Siakam, sources said." - Jake Fischer

"As evidenced by the Raptors’ return for Anunoby, and how Toronto dismissed offers of multiple first-rounders for Anunoby during previous transaction cycles, the Raptors are prioritizing young, established players with upside to slot next to Scottie Barnes, as opposed to a bounty of draft capital, sources said. Toronto continues to value retooling toward a competitive club and not leaning into any type of rebuild." - Jake Fischer (It certainly does feel like Raptors just want to retool rather than rebuild)

"The Boston Celtics are actively looking for frontcourt help and have long been an admirer of Raptors power forward Chris Boucher. Toronto is thin on the bench right now, but Boucher could theoretically be a part of a bigger deal or three-team swap." - Jake Fischer

Raptors News

"Raptors assistant (and former Warriors assistant) Jama Mahlalela got the Raptors team chain for his contributions to Raptors win. Warriors were his scout." - Esfandiar Baraheni

Raptors point guard Dennis Schroder said that he wants to stay under Darko Rajakovic in Toronto for the foreseeable future. "At the end of the day, I just want to be here long-term as well, and create winning habits and be in a winning organization," Schroder said on The Raptors Show.

"If the Pacers do come away with Siakam, it will come after Indiana came just shy of landing Anunoby, sources said. Indiana made a strong push until the end of Toronto’s talks with New York to bring the Hoosiers product to Gainbridge Fieldhouse, although it’s unclear what sticking points prevented the Pacers and Raptors from getting over the finish line. Even though Indiana selected versatile forward Jarace Walker in last June’s lottery, the Pacers continue to consider upgrades at the four spot, sources said, as they have for several seasons." - Jake Fischer (It seems Pacers were close to getting a deal done with the Raptors for OG, still Siakam does remain for the Pacers)
