Fan favourite Jose Calderon was traded to the Pistons but they were able to acquire Rudy Gay who looked really good. Trade looked like a win for Toronto but the team soon came to face a problem. A year later, Rudy had to be dealt later due to the emergence of DeMar DeRozan. Bobby Webster argued that Rudy Gay and DeRozan were very similar players and seem to not coexist with each other. So they chose to build around Lowry and DeRozan and trade Gay away.
