fundamentally, I want one of the young mavs players, christie or hardy. christie made the money work. with the mavs falling on hard times, I’m trying to address the some of their roster glut. I think klay is not in a position to succeed rn and although he isn’t the shooter klay is, rj would be a big replacement as a guaranteed 20ppg scorer at the beginning of his prime. someone who creates paint touches, cuts, passes well, and can really run pick and rolls, while having the best shooting and defensive season of his career. rj is also much younger, has an existing relationship with cooper flagg, and is in better shape to play this season and after.

caleb martin is a tough contract we would have to eat, but I’m sure we wouldn’t be able to nab naji marshall who is much more equipped to contribute tomorrow. max christie would be a skilled, young player with potential to start with our young group down the line. big max christie fan. also, getting klay is a massive opportunity to get one of the most winning-est vets in the league to model success for our young core.

I also want a future second round pick to sweeten the pot seeing as we’re sending gradey out and taking on caleb martin’s contract. I think this deal would be easier to sell with hardy as the focal point, but I would pitch this first and push hard for christie before trying work a hardy deal out.
