Why the Raptors do this: Toronto is always waiting to snag a star, and this may be their chance. Toronto has built their team up perfectly, and placed themselves in a situation to land a big name like Damian Lillard. They have depth, and a very well balance roster that boasts defence around Dame. But this trade comes at a heavy cost. This package easily surpasses Miami’s offer and simply gives the blazers financial flexibility. The blazers also receive picks that are should be slightly more valuable than Miami’s going forward. With Pascal wanting to resign, and OG getting a more prominent role, Toronto is set up to succeed at the highest level after this trade!

Why the Suns do this: Phoenix has shown ample interest in moving Deandre Ayton in the past. This trade finally allows them to do so. Ayton is good, and still has potential, but he may not construct the frontcourt arsenal that phoenix requires for a deep playoff run. Adding Nurkic and Boucher allows the suns to showcase their versatility with and an assortment of frontcourt players like KD, Nurkic, Boucher, Metu, Bol, Eubanks, and Wainwright. Nurkic can be the offensive weapon that Ayton was, and also provide strong rebounding. Boucher will enable them to get out and run, while spacing the floor and protecting the rim.

Why the Blazers do this: Portland is ramping up their Damian Lillard trade talks, and we can all sense that a trade is on the horizon. Dame’s time is running to an end in Oregon, and although against his public will, his time north of the border is just beginning. Portland benefits from this trade by landing a former 1st overall selected big man, by bringing back a two-way wing in GTJ, by landing PG depth and an expiring. Not to mention and equal, if not better load of picks than what Miami could offer. Portland would be foolish to reject this offer as this would put them in such a bright position for the future!
