++What each team gets:++
Toronto Raptors get: Maxi Kleber, Dwight Powell, David Roddy, and two 2025 second round picks (one of them is not listed)
Dallas Mavericks get: Larry Nance Jr
Atlanta Hawks get: Bruce Brown
++Why each team does this:++
Toronto Raptors: Getting second round picks back for an overpaid player in Bruce Brown is great value, even if it means taking on future salary. Assuming he's healthy (which he hasn't been for the past few years), Maxi Kleber could be a useful player for the Raptors. Dwight Powell and David Roddy kind of suck but at least David Roddy is young and could maybe be useful? Since it would still be the offseason, the Raptors would also have time to cut or dump their players to bring their roster down to 15 regular contracts.
Dallas Mavericks: It might seem a little strange to trade second round picks and Maxi Kleber for Larry Nance Jr, who's is a little worse than Maxi Kleber, but he's more available health-wise which makes him closer to Kleber's value. Trading for him also means that you save 15 mil in cap space for 2025 free agency, which would put them about 17.4 mil below the luxury tax, more than enough for a full MLE contract, either to keep Quentin Grimes or to sign a good free agent or even do a sign and trade. Dwight Powell also sucks so trading him also helps the Mavs.
Atlanta Hawks: It may seem like kind of a waste using the 25.2 mil Dejounte Murray trade exception to for just Bruce Brown and not any significant upgrades. But getting Bruce Brown (who's a better player than Larry Nance Jr) for nothing is still good value. I also don't think there are that many other moves that could help turn around the Hawks' upcoming season anyways.
