Raptors Offseason

SUCCESS

The Raptors are clearly in contending mode, even though they probably shouldn't be. They are aggressively going after Kevin Durant, and will reportedly throw the kitchen sink at Giannis if made available. However, I don't believe adding a 37 year old to a team he probably doesn't even want to go to, also understanding that he doesn't fit the teams timeline at all. In a trade like that , you would also have to shell out Barrett and Poeltl, as well as possibly Quickley in there as well. It just simply isn't smart for this organization, as they need to get used to winning first and they have to get to the big stage in order to break through, (the playoffs). Giannis I don't believe will be made available. If he was, I wouldn't mind this team throwing Scottie and Dick at Milwaukee, and all there picks for him. However, I am operating as if he will be a Buck next season. This team has the structure to possibly compete, which is why I would understand them making a move for a younger star player.

Trade #1 Make a HUGE Splash For Ja Morant Raptors get: Ja Morant, #48 Grizz get: Immanuel Quickley, JaKobe Walter, Jamison Battle, A.J Lawson, #9, 2029 Unprotected First, 2030 Swap, 2031 Unprotected first ( also could do 2032 swap, didn't do it in this)

First disclaimer is this is under the case that 1: The Grizzlies are rebuilding and go through a full rebuild, or 2: This offer is an offer the Grizzlies just can't pass up, like the Bane deal. Toronto feels like they should make a big deal, and this could definitely be the perfect move for them. Ja is a star in our league, and was seen as a face of the league before some injuries piled up, and he had some off the court issues. However, when fully healthy, Ja is a dog, and he was viewed as a potential face for a reason. He was the whole system for a #2 seed and #3 seed Grizzlies team where he averaged 27-6-7, and 26-6-8, and was 7th in 2022 MVP voting. That is his ceiling, and maybe could get higher in Toronto, with Scottie, BI, Barrett, and Grady Dick around him. This moves gets them in at least the conversation of top teams in the east. For Memphis, they get a player in Quickley who can rebuild his value in Memphis and is a very solid player when healthy. JaKobe Walter is a good young player who will get a lot better with opportunity, and getting the 9th pick is huge, giving them #9 and #16 in this draft. You could pick at those spots, or try to trade up for a player with all the assets being recouped in the Ja and Bane trades. They also get two possibly good unprotected picks, (Memphis understanding that Ja's off the court issues could get him booted out of Toronto), and a swap, (possibly two if you include 2032 swap). I think for both sides this is pretty good value.

Trade #2 Swap of seconds Warriors get: #39 Raptors get: 2030 Warriors 2nd, 2031 2nd ( Minnesota has rights to swap between there pick and Golden States second)

From huge trade to small trade, this gives Toronto solid seconds for the future, while getting off a roster spot that will be used for a free agent. Golden State gets a second to possibly get a win now player, or a project to have there big 3 mentor.

Free Agency

Sign Luke Kornet and Chris Boucher

Starting with Luke Kornet, He showed a lot for Boston this season, being a great shot blocker and connector offensively, setting good screens and having a high IQ on both ends. Kornet is definitely a backup level player, but can play big minutes when Poeltl is out, or having a bad game.

Chris Boucher is a very solid player who when he gets opportunities, he takes advantage. A very good offensive player, not much so defensively. This season would be his last chance to put together both sides of the ball, but using the MLE to get Kornet and Boucher is a huge bargain.

PG: Ja Morant SG: RJ Barrett SF: Brandon Ingram PF: Scottie Barnes C: Jakob Poeltl

Bench: Grade Dick, Luke Kornet, Ochai Agbaji, Chris Boucher, Jamal Shead, Jon Mogbo, Colin Castleton, pick #48

This team can really do something big in the open east best case scenario, but also has a lot of time to learn each other and get to gel as a team. From top to bottom, they have young good players who the trajectory is up for all of them. This team would give Toronto excitement again. What do y'all think? LMK in the comments.
