It’s no secret that Morey wants PG13, but in the back of Philly fans’ minds is what’s behind the smoke screen.

Markannen is exactly the kind of player the Sixers should target to complement Embiid, Maxey and George. He’s the perfect complimentary 4 given his athleticism, size and shooting ability. This deal is only a $10M cap hit which still leaves room for PG’s max contract and certainly an even more enticing roster to team up with.

Now for the Jazz this makes sense because they’re not gonna be competitive any time soon and as much as they put up a valiant effort each regular season since trading Gobert and Mitchell, it’s just not enough in an incredibly competitive West. He’s alone on the roster as far his timeline is concerned and to lose him in free agency is pretty much a guarantee. 3 1sts, 3 2nds and Paul Reed for Markannen is more than a fair deal for an expiring contract. If that’s not enough, Philly can still trade the #16 pick this year.

As far as competition, you might find OKC will be interested but that remains to be seen. I think they rather take on a girthy Center that would bump Holmgren down to the 4 as opposed to trading for a stretch 4 who could end up being a redundant fit.
