Sixers get Demar Derozan to start over either Melton or Oubre. Anytime adding a 20+ PPG guy is always helpful. Demar is someone I trust in the 4th, and can take some heat off Maxey and Embiid. He also is a completely different basketball player, and there is not really any overlap between the three (maybe a little overlap with Tobias, but I think it would work out. Philly only would need to give up one first round pick since he's expiring and a large contract. I also gave them a second round pick in return because Morey seems adamant about adding seconds this deadline, but then reroute it to Brooklyn with Jaden Springer for Royce Oneale. Giving up Morris and Covington is rough but you get Oneale who can play the role Morris/Cov play right now, and I wouldn't think there would much (if any) dropoff in production.
Im sure some teams would be interested in Demar. Theres Golden State, but I'm sure the bulls don't want the Chris Paul or Wiggins contract. The Lakers don't make much sense and it sounds like they are getting Murray. I doubt the Mavericks. The Knicks already have a logjam of wings, Demar would probably ask to not go to a team like Orlando or Detroit, two teams that I could see wanting Demar, but I think the Bulls would respect that wish. Philly seems like the most seamless landing spot. And it doesn't seem like his value is much more than just a single first rounder, I think it makes all the sense in the world.
As for Royce Oneale, I think there's a lot more teams interested, but I guarantee the nets wont get a first for him, but maybe springer and one second round pick can be beaten by other teams. Maybe Philly offers 1 or 2 of their own seconds in addition to this bulls pick but who knows exactly. The nets should sell everything IMO but we all know they wont. A little undersized but a really good 3&D bench guy.
I still feel like Philly could use more defense, but I trust nick nurse to figure this all out. Maybe a backup ball handler for the regular season, but come playoff time, I don't think its that big a deal
Doing this trade allows Philly to also be in the buyout market. Some names to look out for Thad Young (reunion loved him in Philly), Delon Wright, Kelly Olynick(doubt it but maybe), Alec Burks (another reunion maybe) Kyle Lowry, Gordon Hayward (probably the best who will get bought out this year) and in this scenario, Marcus Morris and Covington are prime buyout targets even though we just traded them away (I wouldn't think either would have bad blood and would just come right back if that's what both sides want)
This trade still would leave Philly with 4 picks they can trade in the offseason (plus swaps), and still have cap flexibility because they are both free agents. Youre not doing any harm at all bringing in Demar, and you don't have to commit for multiple years unlike guys like Lavine and Murray.
Sixers Lineup would look like this: Maxey -- PatBev Demar -- Melton Oubre -- Oneale Harris -- Batum Embiid -- Reed
