The Minnesota Timberwolves have become one of the most talked about teams this offseason. They’ve made major moves, including sending out Naz Reid and Julius Randle as part of a package for Lamelo Ball. And they also traded for Cody Williams and signed the Kum Bucket. But will these moves allow the Wolves to advance further than before?

The Wolves last year were great, they finished with 49 wins and were lead by their core of Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, Julius Randle, and a bunch of elite role players. Ant was averaging nearly 30 a game while Randle was leading them with 5 assists. Their most underrated player was either Rudy who averaged a double double or Jaden McDaniels who was getting 15 a game with elite defensive numbers. They had one of the best teams in the league last year but they were knocked out by the eventual runner ups in the second round of the playoffs.

With the second apron looming over them and Ayo Dosunmu up for an extension they had to make some moves. They traded Julius Randle to the Nets in a 3 team deal that saved them nearly 30 million which they used to extend Ayo. Then, with their new cap space they sent Naz Reid to Charlotte for Melo and Josh Green. Later on Green would be flipped for Cody Williams and John Konchar who would be waived. But all of these moves cut depth and didn’t make a major cap loss. They still have issues.

Currently the starting 5 looks like Lamelo, Ant, Ayo, Jaden, and Rudy which is good but the depth behind them is questionable. They have Kuminga, Cody Williams, Terence Shannon Jr, Isaiah Evans, and Joan Beringer as the backup 5. Cody Williams at this point in his career is looking like a bust, Beringer barely played last year, Evans is a rookie, and Shannon has yet to prove whether or not he can be an important piece on a title team. Besides Kuminga, their bench is still a huge question mark.

I don’t expect the Timberwolves to be a title contender this year with a questionable bench and such a new team. Melo and Ant will be super fun to watch but it’s not gonna make the team win games. Just because people watch something doesn’t mean it’s the best in the nation. That’s what I expect to see out of the Timberwolves this year, they will probably make it to the second round and win 50 games but winning the title doesn’t seem like the right expectation for such a different looking team.
