Context, this scenario would happen in two stages. This is just an idea, and no, it's not rage bait, this is a serious trade. Read the full description for context, thank you :)
First, trading Randle to the Hornets would happen at the trade deadline this season. Then, the Timberwolves trading for Fox with the assets they collect would happen in the 2025 off-season.
Note: Ignore the Knicks, Fanspo hasn't updated the Detroit pick, but it doesn't really matter anyways. Also, imagine all the picks in the trade machine being listed as the Wolves because they would have them in this case to give to the Kings for trading away Randle to the Hornets.
Well, why would each team do this?
Timberwolves: For the Timberwolves, they add a REAL secondary scorer and PG to go alongside ANT to push them back into contention status in the western conference. As currently constructed, the Wolves are decent, but very clunky and are in need of more creation. This trade still allows the Wolves to have good depth, but would probably need to trade for a back-up big man once they start Naz Reid.
Kings: For the Kings, even with the uncertainty surrounding Fox, the Kings regardless are not good enough. In my opinion, they should have shown Fox how committed they were and traded for Markkanen, someone who is more in the timeline of Fox and would compliment them better, rather than an aging 35 year old Derozan. Even though the Kings are decent, if you aren't willing to swing big in the NBA, then why even try in the first place which is why they should reset things. If the Timberwolves can get a good return on Randle, then, they are probably one of a few teams that really good give the Kings a good offer that has a mix of good young talent and picks. To be honest, I'm not sure if everyone would agree with the return here, but in my opinion it certainly feels pretty like pretty good value.
Hornets: For the Hornets, I feel like the next move could be to add a useful veteran in Randle to push them further. Even with Ball and Miller, they are still one of the worst offensive teams in the NBA. In a low pressure situation like Charlotte, Randle could be that spark the Hornets are looking for. Also, this just feels like a move the Hornets would make. In their situation, any talent really will go along way, its a low risk, high reward move. Either it goes bad, they resign him as they have the flexibility, and trade him. Or, it's successful and they add wing defenders overtime. They really can't 'lose' this trade, and regardless, at some point they need to make moves to improve.
Picks: For picks, as Williams will be out for the remainder of the season and the Wolves would be much worse in the short term, plus Randle is definitely better than both Williams and Green, they would want a few frp's and seconds to compensate, but the Hornets aren't giving up any of their own future draft capital which would be the appeal for them. Then, the wolves would take all these picks, plus players, and use them for Fox.
Anyways, that's the trade... thank you for reading!
