Why the timberwolves do this - The timberwolves main issue with the roster is lack of quality depth at PG. Bringing in Schroder at PG gives them a solid backup behind Mike Conley. Conley is also out of contract next season and unless he takes a big paycut, the Wolves don't really have the flexibilty to re-sign him. If Schroder is a good fit, they may look at making him the starting PG for next season. The Timberwolves will also need to replace Anderson's minutes off the bench. He has been poor this season but I mostly think this is due to how the timberwolves are playing, he just doesn't seem mobile enough to be the 3 or physical enough to play the 4 in the current system. The Timberwolves could replace Anderson's minutes with an increase to Naz Reid's minutes and/or by giving rookie Leonard Miller a deserved bigger role.

Why the Raptors do this - It looks like the rebuild is happening in Toronto even if it isn't a complete restart. The Raptors just received two promising young guards in the OG Anuoby trade which will likely decrease the minutes that Schroder will get. They also need to clear some cap space for Quickly's extension which is rumoured to be around the $125/5 mark. In this trade they receive an expiring Anderson, a young guard/wing in Moore Jr who hasn't been able to crack the timberwolves rotation since being picked number 26 in the 2022 draft. They also receive 2 2nd round picks.
