To my eyes, this seems equitable. As a Minnesota fan, it would be a real gut punch losing Naz. However, this trade would help them both in the short term and over the long-term.
Previously, I was against the idea of the Wolves pursuing a trade with Lakers to acquire Reaves. However, the more I think about the potential synergy between his game with Anthony Edwards, I’ve begun to see there’s considerable merit to such a hypothetical trade. Taking a flyer on Rui, could pay off. It’s possible, if not probable, that he’s a better defender than Reid in while he isn’t adapt as Naz off the dribble, he does possess a similar shooting touch from beyond the arc. Vando it’s still one of Ant’s all-time favorite teammates and is versatility and toughness on defense would be incredibly beneficial to the second unit and in lineups when the wolves need to get a situational stop alongside Rudy, Jaden, Ant, and Clark. That would be a terrifying proposition for opposing offenses to contend with when trying to design a shot coming out of a timeout in late game situations.
For the Lakers, giving Luka Dončić the opportunity to play alongside reliable high volume three point shooters like Naz and DDV could be incredibly beneficial for the Lakers. I think both players would be seamless fits alongside Luka and presumably, a healthy LeBron James. We’re over, I think there’s still some untapped potential in Rob Dillingham and I think he’s well suited for a role as an off the bench microwave scorer. Plus, in situations when Dillingham would be bracketed between Luka and Marcus Smart, his limitations defense, primarily related to his 6 foot stature and slight frame, would be obfuscated; especially true if LeBron James is also on the court. It would give Gillingham lots of one on one scoring situations, and he possesses one of the best handles and quickest steps in the NBA, I really think he would flourish in that role.
I know it looks like a lot for both of the teams to give up, especially with Minnesota giving up three swaps to the Lakers. However, I can’t help but think that it would really address some real weaknesses on both teams and would set them both up for short term and long-term success.
What do you think?
