Minnesota is in a position where they likely will look to trade Rudy and/or KAT. KAT would obviously net more value in a trade, but I think KAT fits better with Ant and McDaniels, so by personal preference would be to deal Rudy.
Rudy is a bit of a sunk cost, The Wolves aren't getting back 5 1sts and 3 role players in this deal. I settled on Turner and swapping #29 & a future 2nd for #53. I think this deal does 2 things for Minnesota: It gives them more cap flexibility going forward with paying KAT, Ant, and McDaniels close to 3 max contracts combined, and gives them a more concrete identity with Turner being a much close skillset to KAT and Naz than Rudy offers. The Wolves can now play 2 bigs at all times, but they can all space the floor, and are all at least capable of playing a bit of a 4/5 hybrid.
I then tried to package Theis & Prince's contracts together for a "lotto ticket" like player. The Bulls fit this bill the best, as they are in flux a bit, and entering the off-season with a lot of question marks without a lot of players under contract. Flipping Lonzo in this deal gets Chicago 2 legitimate NBA players that will play next season for a guy who may be finished in the NBA. It also opened up an additional 5 million or so in cap space for Chicago when factoring in one less cap hold for a full roster. Minnesota gambles that Lonzo can return healthy and be their future starting PG, but have an out after the 2024-25 season if his knee is spent. --- --- ---
