I don't know... I guess it works on paper (or fanspo)

SUCCESS

But... I'm not sure if either the Knicks or Mavs would have much interest in pulling the trigger on such a deal.

Mostly, I want IQ to be Ant's backcourt partner, I think he'd be almost the ideal prototype of what you'd want in a point guard along side Edwards; someone who can be effective without requiring a high usage; is an above average (potentially even great) defender at the position; acquits himself nicely from three point range; and (I think) could be quite good as a secondary creator/ball handler. Robinson is at least 70% of Gobert, while be paid a little over a third of Gobert's annual salary. Me being your typical parochial Minnesota, would love to see Jericho Sims (a native Minnesotan) suit up for the Timberwolves.

The Knicks receive quality rotation players and a promising big (Lively) drafted in the lottery this past summer and will be on a rookie contract for the next five years. I have a hard time imagining that they'll want to spend the money it will take to resign IQ (upwards of $20 million), who is on an expiring deal; that's a lot to spend on a non-starter at guard, when they are already paying Brunson, Hart, and Barrett (and still have Grimes on the roster). The knicks also receive several second round picks.

The Mavs receive a player, who on the offensive end might perfectly compliment Luka and Kyrie while also (likely) making them a top 10 (15 at the lowest) defense. Gobert paired with the two stars would instantly put them in the title hunt.

Still, parting with Lively might be a little much for the Mavericks (even if they are acquiring a player who would help them compete at the top level) and unless the Knicks are receiving a young player of his ilk along with a couple of really solid veteran bench pieces (and the 4 second round picks), it's hard to imagine the knicks agreeing to such a deal. Unless Lively is included, the knicks will receive significantly stronger offers for IQ.

But at this point of the year, when we are on the brink of training camp, everyone feels fairly hopeful about their favorite team; so this wolves fan might as well dream about the Wolves acquiring someone who could potentially be the best/most well rounded point guard in the franchise's history. (Cassell was only with MN for a little over a season; Terrell Brandon was fine... but he replaced Marbury and those were big shoes to fill; Pooh Richardson was a personal favorite, but he wasn't an especially good defender or outside shooter; Rubio, great guy/teammate, amazing passer and defender... however, my guy couldn't finish at the rim and that was in addition to bad/inconsistent outside shooting; Conley is about to collect social security; and the less said about DLO the better.

Chauncey was alright, but he wan't really CHAUNCEY BILLUPS in his two (or was it just one?) season with Minnesota.
