Dear Kevon Looney

Dear Kevon Looney — Thank You for Everything

Today’s news hit hard—seeing you sign with the New Orleans Pelicans marks the end of an incredible chapter. It’s tough to put into words how much you’ve meant to me and to every single Warriors fan who’s watched you grow over the past ten years. You may not have always been the loudest or flashiest player on the court, but make no mistake: you were one of the most longest tenured pieces of our dynasty.

You arrived in Golden State as a quiet rookie in 2015, the 30th pick, battling injuries and flying under the radar. But over the years, you earned our trust, our admiration, and eventually, our complete respect. You became a Warrior in every sense of the word—reliable, unselfish, and tough as nails.

I’ll never forget your 2022 playoff run. That’s when the whole world saw what we already knew. You became our starting center and dominated the glass like no one else. You led the entire league in offensive rebounds that postseason—not Jokic, not Embiid, but you. Whether it was 22 boards in a crucial Game 6 against Memphis or your 21-point, 12-rebound night against Dallas, you were the foundation we stood on. Whenever we missed a shot and needed a 2nd chance you were there to grab the ball for us. No matter who was on you you delivered in the moment In the Finals against Boston, you were the one doing the dirty work—boxing out, switching on defense, keeping possessions alive—and it made all the difference. We don’t win that ring without you. Period.

You never needed the spotlight. You never asked for more touches, more minutes, or more credit. You just showed up, game after game, and did what needed to be done. Every screen you set, every rebound you fought for, every rotation you nailed—it was all for the team. That kind of selflessness is rare in this league, and it's what made you so special.

Watching you for the past decade has been a privilege. You taught me that greatness isn’t always loud. That being valuable doesn’t mean being the top scorer. That sometimes the most important players are the ones doing the work no one else wants to do, and doing it better than anyone else. You were the calm in chaos, the glue guy, the heartbeat of our frontcourt.

Even off the court, you carried yourself with a quiet strength and professionalism that never wavered. You mentored younger guys, stepped up when the team needed you, and never once made it about yourself. I hope you know how much we appreciated that. You were a fan favorite not just because of what you did—but because of how you did it.

Seeing you in another jersey is going to hurt. There’s no sugarcoating that. You’ve been with us for ten years—ten years of championships, deep playoff runs, battles in the paint, and moments only real fans will remember. I wish you nothing but success in New Orleans. You deserve every bit of it. They’re getting a guy who defines what it means to be a true professional, a warrior in every sense of the word.

But just know—no matter what jersey you wear now—you’ll always be one of us. You’ll always be a Warrior. Always loved. Always respected. And always remembered as the guy who did everything, who gave everything, and who meant everything to this team.

Thank you, Loon. From the bottom of my heart.

Forever grateful, Warrior fans 💙💛
