So far, Jonathan Isaac of the Orlando Magic has had one of those careers. He looks like a perennial Defensive Player of the Year winner when he’s healthy. He’s got some offensive chops, too. Unfortunately, he’s almost never healthy.

This is a gamble for the Magic. Arguably, it’s a bigger one for the Washington Wizards.

Suppose Isaac gets injured again. At this point, with his extensive injury history, it wouldn’t be a shock if the next time he got hurt, it ended his career. I hate to say that, but I’ve got to ground ourselves in reality.

Alternatively, the payoff here could be tremendous. Isaac is making progress. If he continues to do so, there’s no telling what’s in store for the 25-year-old. So the Wizards take their chances as they make use of his all time low value
