Trey Young is a floor general that allows Beal to set up to be a catch-and-shoot slasher bc he won’t have to be the primary ball handler.
Wiz keep Porzingis who they will trade next season to free up cap space for Kuzma.
No one wants Beal’s contract, so they have to continue to build around him and unfortunately, that means sometimes taking on massive salaries like Young’s.
Why the Hawks Do It:
The Dejounte Murray/Trey Young backcourt has worked about as well as the Gobert-KAT front court. Usage rates are inconsistent. Chemistry and timing aren’t clicking. Neither has a problem with the other, but it’s just not a good fit.
The relationship between Nate McMillan and Young has run its course. Neither like each other or trust one another, and that’s a recipe for disaster if Young’s the face of your franchise and the highest paid player.
It make sense for both teams, and the Top Teams in each Conference can’t offer a better package especially if they want to keep their footing in contention for the Top 5 Playoff seeds in the West and East.
