A trade for every NBA team | #23 Philadelphia 76ers

The first sign and trade I've proposed on here, and that's only because I did not realize how many guys the Sixers are running on minimums and 1 year deals or qualifying offers. But I think it's safe to say Quentin Grimes is one who has played their way into a stable contract, right? Let's get into the short but sweet details.

Grimes is infamously the player that Philly decided to keep when they had to choose between him and Jared McCain to clear up tax space, whether that was the right decision or not (it was not) still remains to be seen (it really isn't). Don't take anything away from Grimes though, in a year where he was playing for another, bigger contract, he showed out. The three ball is down, but he's always been a relatively good 3 point shooter and I mainly attribute his down year to him having more responsibility this year, which let me touch on as well. This year he was tasked with being the 3rd primary ball handler for Philly behind Maxey and VJ, and before VJ was established Grimes was number 2. Not to say he's amazing at it, but he's a decent shot creator and a basic level facilitator at least, and when you realize his main role is to just be a connective piece at the wing, that level of player growth is all you could ask of a role player like him, and in terms of those connective duties, well he's as good as you could ask for. A proven off ball player who can move and shoot in case y'all forgot from his time in New York, and a really competent defender, I'm a bit hard pressed to call him good, but he's someone that does the little things so well on that end. And well, I just feel like everything I've just said really bodes well for the Magic. I know Da Silva is a huge piece for them, but Grimes fits a big a big hole they've yet to fill. Does he fit perfectly? No not really, but he gives them an option there that can address the parts that need to be addressed, something that we know Da Silva would not have been able to do. Not because Da Silva was a misfit on Orlando or anything, it's just because it wasn't his role so it really was none of his concern, he's really just an innocent casualty in my attempt to justify this trade from Orlando's POV.

And as for Philly, I mean with the emergence of Edgecombe their need for another ball handler and creator was pretty much solved, now they need bigger and more athletic wings to surround their backcourt and supplement their brittle frontcourt. Da Silva is perfect for that role! He's a good 3 point shooter on the bounce, he's a good defender to put on opposing wings, he doesn't stand still on offense and isn't afraid to do the dirty work on the glass, and he's already shown flashes of being able to be that other offensive shot creator that Philly would love. Don't really got more to say, for now at least, all I've said so far is just from his first 2 years in the league, I'd say that's pretty great string words to have hurled at you in just your 2nd season. This is funnily turning out to be a bit more like an Orlando trade with how much I wrote about Grimes, well I can't help it, Grimes is one of my favorite players in the league.
