Predictions for top free agents
Lamar Jackson
Tagged by Baltimore (1 yr., $30 million)
The Ravens would be stupid not to tag their once-MVP QB in preparation for his enormous contract he will get. He is getting tagged for now, though.
Javon Hargrave
Resigned by Philadelphia (2 yrs., $40 million)
Hargrave was a force on the d-line for the NFC champion squad, finishing as one of 4 players on the Eagles with 10+ sacks, getting 11. He will be resigned to a rich deal in AAV.
Saquon Barkley
Resigned by New York (4 yrs., $44 million)
Cut players, do anything, the Giants need Saquon to succeed on offense. Him and Daniel Jones are must-keeps for the Giants if they want to replicate their 2022 success. Resign Barkely and tag Danny, no matter what it takes.
Orlando Brown
Tagged by Kansas City (1 yr., $20 million)
Keeping Brown is necessary for the Chiefs to continue their offensive dominance post-Bieniemy, and tagging Brown in preparation for his big contract is what the Chiefs must do.
James Bradberry
Signed by San Francisco (3 yrs., $45 million)
Bradberry turns an excellent season in Philly into big money with a big-time contender. The 49ers need another corner to pair with Charvarius Ward, and they can get the best one on the market as Bradberry finally turns a prove-it deal into a big-time commitment.
Geno Smith
Resigned by Seattle (4 yrs., $100 million)
Smith turned in the most random excellence I've seen, and he'll be paid well in Seattle for it, as he gets the unquestioned starter money to stay in the PNW and perform highly.
Derek Carr
Signed by Atlanta (3 yrs., $63 million)
Pretty much identical to Teddy B's Carolina deal, I see Carr heading to the Falcons and giving Atlanta the chance to both win a weak division and possibly have a chance at getting Davante Adams.
Jimmy Garoppolo
Signed by Jets (5 yrs., $130 million, options to void after 3 or 4 years)
Garoppolo is the guy the Jets need to replace Zach Wilson. A veteran with immense upside and proven talent, Garoppolo could bring the Jets to the playoffs and more with their established talent. Plus, options can get them out early if injuries or inconsistency hit. A good signing.
C.J. Gardner-Johnson
Signed by Bears (5 years, $70 million)
About what Marcus Williams, former teammate of C.J., got last year, is what I see CJGJ getting this year. He's a ballhawk safety with great skill, which Chicago could use in their rebuild. They get their defensive leader with this signing.
Daron Payne
Signed by Cardinals (3 yrs., $51 million)
Payne is a great DT that Jonathan Gannon could employ as well as he did with Hargrave in Philly. Plus, Payne cashes in on a talented team ruined by Kingsbury and Keim. HC Gannon gets his defensive leader with this move, and Arizona gets a very talented player.
Josh Jacobs
Signed by Panthers (4 yrs., $48 million)
Jacobs obviously has an immense amount of talent, plus he's young enough that the deal won't even run to his 30's. Carolina needs an enforcer on offense, and Jacobs proved last year he is one of the best runners in the league, so why not bring him in? He could group with D'Onta Foreman and Chuba Hubbard to make a scary 3-headed monster in Carolina for Frank Reich.
Tony Pollard
Tagged by Dallas (1 year, $10 million)
Tagging Pollard is the best option for the 'Boys right now. Cut Zeke, let Pollard play the tag, and give him the cash next year. Simple.
Mike McGlinchey
Signed by Chicago (4 yrs., $60 million)
Chicago needs a great tackle to see Justin Fields improve in passing, and a huge rock-solid tackle from a great team like McGlinchey is a great step. The Bears have the cap, and they'll use it.
Jordan Poyer
Signed by Atlanta (3 yrs., $45 million)
The Falcons also have a large cap to play with, and a defensive stalwart like Poyer, still performing very well at 31, is an amazing step for the Falcons. Poyer and Carr will improve the team down in Atlanta.
Marcus Davenport
Signed by Tennessee (4 yrs., $52 million)
Tennessee needs to cut Bud Dupree. After they do so, the cap they've freed by cutting Dupree, Taylor Lewan, and Robert Woods allows them to spend a lot, and Davenport is a great pickup to group with Harold Landry and Jeffrey Simmons. Watch out for the Tennessee front.
Jakobi Meyers
Signed by Indy (4 yrs., $56 million)
Indianapolis will draft a QB, preferably Bryce Young, and giving him a greatly skilled receiver on a long-term deal will go a long way. Indy needs a true #1, and Meyers can be that guy. He and Michael Pittman will be a great duo for the Colts' next QB.
I'll do more posts for other free agents, but these are the ones I could really get good ideas for right now. Tell me who you would like to see next, and I'll do in the next posts!
