My Arizona Cardinals Coaching Candidate Tier List

Call today bird day, because I am posting three bird teams new head coach candidates.

This might be one of the more difficult jobs to go to if I were a candidate. You don't have a QB in place like you do in Baltimore, New York, Tennessee, or Las Vegas, you aren't walking into a fresh new scene like you would in Atlanta or Miami where you and the new GM can do basically anything you want, and Cleveland is a good situation because at least you have a good defense that you don't have to worry about making major changes to and can focus more time on getting the offense going. Arizona is in this place where tanking is there only option, but looking at their draft history, do I trust Monti Ossenfort in drafting well and rebuilding this team? He has been here for three years and is promised a fourth, he found some bright spots in the draft with Paris Johnson, Michael Wilson, Dadrion Taylor Demerson, and Will Johnson, but he is also the same guy to draft Darius Robinson who has two sacks in his two seasons in the NFL and Walter Nolen who has yet to make an impact due to injuries setting him back. I can't blame them for going after Marvin Harrison Jr over Malik Nabers because everyone else would choose MHJ over Nabers in the draft. If I were Arizona, I wouldn't had let Monti back and would had started fresh, now I got to hope that the real reason these draft picks didn't pan out is because of Gannon's leadership or we will be back in this spot in the next two or three years.

Splashy Hires

  • Vance Joseph, Denver Broncos (DC; 2023-?)

The former DC here after the Broncos HC job didn't work out. Like I have said for a while, I think he has been able to reinvent himself and I believe he will be a fantastic HC elsewhere after learning from Sean Payton. The main question for me is is the Cardinals the right fit for him?

  • Jeff Hafley, Green Bay Packers (DC; 2024-?)

As it doesn't seem like they are interested in Minter, Hafley is my go to for developing young stars. He has college and NFL experience and has a great track record in getting the best out of his guys. Hafley is the guy I would want for my long term growth and success.

  • Klint Kubiak, Seattle Seahawks (OC; 2025-?)

At this point, it sounds like Kubiak will be a HC in 2026 based on how many teams have asked to interview him. Has had a great season with Darnold and led the Seahawks to the best record in the NFL, just feel like he needs one more year as the OC.

Former Head Coaches

  • Robert Saleh, San Francisco 49ers (DC; 2025-?)

I am unsure of this possibility. Feel like if Saleh takes it, it is like returning to the Jets for him. They will most likely tank for their franchise QB in 2026, he doesn't have a lot to play with, I wouldn't leave your DC position for the Cardinals. Give it a year and then try to take the best job you can next season if you want back in as a HC.

  • Raheem Morris, former Atlanta Falcons Head Coach (2024-25)

To be honest, I think Atlanta should had just fired their OC and see how a new OC will do for Penix. That is until I found out they just wanted to fully reset. Morris, on the other hand, might be a great fit for this team and to get this defense going next season.

  • Matt Nagy, Kansas City Chiefs (OC; 2023-?)

I have said this time and time again that Nagy is not a good HC, but he keeps getting interviews. I don't understand why, but also want to see how he does this time around.

It's Confusing

  • Anthony Weaver, Miami Dolphins (DC; 2024-?)

I don't know what the Cardinals see in his defense to say "I want that" because both years in a row, the defense did not show up in the first half of the season and allowed teams to come back and beat us, including Arizona in 2024, and then when very little was on the line is when the defense looks like a top tier defense. I also thought that this might be a minority interview, but the majority of the candidates are minorities, so I guess he is a legit candidate.

  • Thomas Brown, New England Patriots (PGC; 2025-?)

This is indeed a young, up and coming coach that was seen as potential serious HC candidate before becoming an OC in the NFL. He was the Bears interim HC last year, and they didn't really have anything to play for by the time he took over, but he didn't give me reason to think he deserves the HC job in Chicago or elsewhere.

There is my list for the Cardinals. Let me know your thoughts down below in the comment section.
