The Big Ten was founded as the Intercollegiate Conference of Faculty Representatives in 1896 and is the oldest NCAA Division I conference. Being based in Rosemont, Illinois. The conference competes in the FBS, the highest level of NCAA competition in football. For 40 years, the Big Ten remained perfectly normal having its classic ten teams which consisted of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue, and Wisconsin. This was where they got their name before expanding on August 2nd 2024.

Teams in the SEC

  • Alabama

  • Arkansas

  • Auburn

  • Florida

  • Georgia

  • Kentucky

  • LSU

  • Ole Miss

  • Mississippi State

  • Missouri

  • Oklahoma

  • South Carolina

The Southeastern Conference was founded in 1982. Being based in Birmingham, Alabama. The conference also competes in the FBS, the highest level of NCAA competition in football. the SEC was the first NCAA Division I conference to have a championship game for football. This happened in 1992. Unlike the Big Ten, which grew in members, the SEC actually shrank during its first few decades in the FBS. With the departures of Sewanee(1940), Georgia Tech(1964) and Tulane(1966). The conference stayed with 10 members all the way to 1991 when it added Arkansas and South Carolina. in 2024 The University of Texas and the University of Oklahoma, the two biggest schools of the Big 12 Conference joined the SEC. And was for a long time considered the most dominant conference in the FBS

NIl, Initially implemented in 2021 allowed student athletes to profit off their personal brand for the first time without losing their status. Players could earn money through Endorsements and Sponsorships and other things. But now SEC schools aren't able to hold all the talents. Unlike in the past where players could be backups at a big school like Alabama they can now transfer to another school and earn a bunch of money through NIL deals.

The Big Ten has also been winning a lot of National Championships with Michigan in 2023, Ohio State in 2024 and Indiana in 2025. Over the last three seasons, half of the top four teams in the final playoff standings have consistently hailed from the Big Ten. College football has largely shifted toward a pass-heavy offense the Big Ten's recent run of championships has been built on a foundation of classic, physical football. The Big Ten teams have consistently held some of the most dominant offenses and defenses in the country.

Not only with sports but as the University. When universities measure size and how big the school is they don't just look at athletics. The Big Ten Academic Alliance is arguably the most powerful university research in the world. The member schools generate over $10 billion in research annually. SEC schools are great institutions in my opinion but they do not have a formalized academic alliance that is at the level of the Big Ten.

While it may be a tough pill to swallow for SEC fans seeing the Big Ten claim the last three national championships and especially with Indiana pulling off that crazy undefeated title run. If SEC teams want to get back to their form of their teams winning national championships. SEC schools need to get their transfer portal and recruiting strategies straight. They must focus and use its NIL money heavily on the top college football players in the country and start playing great football again(I know they already are but you know).

Please tell me if I got any of my information wrong.
