Back with another takeaway for the Dolphins. I am not sure how many takeaways I will have, but just sit back and get ready to read.

1. Caleb Douglas Disappoints

After a standout game last week, and anticipation for him to continue the same success. None of that really happened this week against the Niners. He had three targets, catching two, for 19 yards. He was pretty quiet all game and was pulled in the fourth after getting rolled up and looked ready to go back out in the next play. To be fair, this isn't fully on him and I will go more in detail later about that, but it was disappointing to see him go from 94 to 19 from one week to another.

2. The Run Game Improves

This is a two in one. On the offensive side, we actually kept feeding Achane in the first half and we controlled the possession on the field. None of it led to big Achane plays, but this is still a huge improved compared to rarely running the ball last week. On the defensive side, we actually were able to contain the run game and forced McCaffrey to 23 yards, Kaelon Black to 2, and Brock Purdy to 30. This is a huge improvement from last week where we allowed Ashton Jeanty to get 102 yards on 23 carries.

3. The Offensive Line And Malik Willis Holding Onto The Ball Too Long

I talked about this last week, but Willis continue to hold on the ball for way too long and he stares down his target way too much. This could obviously stem from lack of playing and starting in the league, but the fact he is our QB1 and we are banking so much on him for this two year period, he needs to fix that issue immediately. And now to the OL, it was terrible and there is no sugar coating that. Again, Willis is a mobile QB and he got sacked 4 times and got 6 rushing yards with two carries. Before I go back into the OL, I want to point out that Willis didn't play so well and if you take away that 77 yard touchdown that you will see that he barely got to 100 passing yards and was 59% in completion percentage. Back to the OL, how I look at them is Aaron Brewer is our heart and soul, Patrick Paul is our Terron Armstead replacement, Kadyn Proctor and Jonah Savaiinaea are both learning and developing, and Austin Jackson is just there for a paycheck. He was drafted in 2020 to protect Tua's blindside just for him to be hurt so many times. He is also a below average tackle who had his best years with Robert Hunt as his RG. I was hoping with this new regime that they would had moved on from him and find a new RT this season, but instead was committed to him and he was constantly bullied all game. We traded for Caedan Wallace during training camp and he look solid during the preseason, I hope that we can find a team needing a RT that we can ship him to and get a fifth or sixth and call it quits with AJ. It would be best for both sides.
