After six seasons, we have decided to cut ties with Tua. Last season was tough to watch, but he has been by far the best QB since Dan Marino and there is no way our offense would be as good as it was in 2022 or 2023 without him. I will miss him in Miami but it was time for us to go our separate ways and I wish him best of luck in Atlanta competing against Michael Penix for the starting job.
Hours later, we find ourselves a new QB in Malik Willis which has been rumored ever since we hired Sully as our GM. I'm not too thrilled about it cause I want to go into this season as a tank season cause we are strapped for cash but look loaded in 2027 (as of yesterday at least, don't know how it's looking) just go into the season with Ewers and see what we got with him on a higher pressure level and if he is our guy, great! If not, great! We got money to spare and picks to use that we can either draft a QB in the top 10 or sign/trade for one before the draft. I don't see a reason to pay $22.5 million for a high risk, high reward QB that we don't know will do in a new system and all we can base it off is how bad he was in Tennessee and how good he was in Green Bay. If it was under $15 million, sure, but over $20M, why? I am glad it wasn't the rumored $30M+ that was floating all over combine cause that is just absurd amounts of money being thrown around if someone actually did that, $22.5 million is just me being a cheapskate.
We also re-signed Greg Dulcich which I am elated cause he was a great player near the end of the season and stepped up when needed.
Finally, we have traded away Minkah to the Jets. When I saw we traded him to the Jets, I thought we swindled them and got a second or third round draft pick or a player or something, but instead we got a seventh round pick for a guy that was one of our bright spots on defense all season. A guy that we traded away so young and was able to get him back in his prime and we get a bag of chips in return. Even if there wasn't much of a market, there could had still been a team that was desperate to trade a fourth or fifth for him if we just waited but instead felt like we just took the first offer we got. This feels like a rookie mistake. Maybe there was something behind the scenes that we don't know about that made Sully eager to get him away and want to beat him twice a year but either way it is what it is at the end of the day.
