My 2026 Miami Dolphins Draft Grade

A little late, but going to get this out before it is too late.

Round 1, Pick 12: Kadyn Proctor (C)

I get why we drafted him, he is tall and big and it would be really tough to pass on him for someone else like Olaivavega Ioane and Proctor becomes this All-Pro lineman. I don't like the pick mostly because of two things, I have watched enough of his game and see him as super inconsistent to the point where he seems like a project OL in the NFL to me and that he has came to summer training all three years overweight and therefore caused either injuries heading into the season or he gets injured to start the season, the FO are not worried about those concerns and reason why they drafted him and he has promised to not get back to the weight but I have a hard time believing it to be the case.

Round 1, Pick 27: Chris Johnson (A-)

I really like this pick. Johnson was a guy I was really high on thinking he could go as early as 20 to Dallas, but I found a sweet spot for him at 32 to Seattle and stuck with it. I honestly didn't think Johnson would be an option with me being dead set on Mansoor Delane still being there at 11 and with other guys like Jermod McCoy, Aveion Terrell, and Colton Hood most likely being off the board before pick 30 rolls around and if Delane went top 10 then we take one of these three. Johnson fits in our system really well and it also helps having Jeff Hafley (who is a DB specialist) as your HC.

Round 2, Pick 43: Jacob Rodriguez (A)

I have been saying all draft season that Jacob Rodriguez is not a first round talent and the reason why I say that is that he was one of the best, if not the best defensive player in college football last year that makes me question if his game will be able to translate enough into the NFL. Got to watch Manti Te'o and Jabrill Peppers go from Heisman finalist to not living up to the high potential they were given heading into the NFL. But, with all that said, I really like placement he fell in being a high draft pick but not a first round pick either where he can prove he was worth being a top 50 pick but also not having to worry if we have to use a fifth year option on him or not. I also like the team fit (being unbiased on this as possible) with Jordyn Brooks coming off an All-Pro year and Tyrel Dodson was solid for us as well that Jacob doesn't have to come in right away and become a Pro Bowler, he can ease in a little bit and then he can take over that MLB/QB of the defense role that he was at Texas Tech.

Round 3, Pick 75: Caleb Douglas (D)

After further consideration, I still think it is a reach. I don't really see a lot of things in his game that makes me think he will be a top receiver not just in the league but for us as well. I think the obvious inside rumor that was swirling around the NFL Front Offices was that he will go day two rather than day three and our FO saw something in him that they didn't want to pass up on and risk losing him so that is why we drafted him so high. Even with that said, I think we could had went for someone else as our first WR pick of the night and it didn't help watching my preferred preference go to Tampa Bay nine picks later.

Round 3, Pick 87: Will Kacmarek (B)

This is a pick I have grown to like a lot. Heading into the draft I wanted three things from a TE, I wanted height (6'5 to 6'8), I wanted to be able catch and get yards, and I wanted a blocker since we haven't had a really good TE blocker in quite some time. I had a couple of names I was watching and Kacmarek was not on my board and was relatively unknown to me. After some research, he is the best blocker in the draft and he might not get you 600 yards, he will get you 300 and I could see him becoming a instant game changer for us.

Round 3, Pick 94: Chris Bell (C+)

A lot of Dolphins fans are estatic in him, I am not. The reason they are happy we got him is because they saw that Miami (FL) game and watched him just torched them. He had a fantastic three game stretch against Pitt, Virginia, and the Miami (FL) game I mentioned, but after that I didn't see much from him and more of a good depth piece for a playoff team for which we are not a playoff team and I already know we will be asking Bell to do way too much way too early and that is also a concern with him coming off an ACL tear.

Round 4, Pick 130: Trey Moore (C)

I don't know what else to say, this just feels like a very meh pick. I am not happy about getting Moore and I am not upset either, I just don't really care or have an opinion on this cause it just feels like a very Packers-esque pick.

Round 4, Pick 138: Kyle Louis (A+)

I really love this pick. A LB/S hybrid that will likely be our nickel this season will obviously make a big impact quick for us. And to add to our now stacked ILB room, I feel like this solidified we are going in a great direction.

Round 5, Pick 158: Michael Taaffe (C+)

I think we got ourselves a great teammate and locker room changer. I don't see him making much of an impact on the field and will likely not see the field as much by year three or four, but he helps bring in a different culture or different vibe to the locker room that is much needed.

Round 5, Pick 177: Kevin Coleman Jr. (B-)

We get us yet another WR and at this point if none of them pan out then we should stop drafting WR's for now on as long as this regime is in charge. I watched him play at Missouri last year and at Mississippi State in 2024 and watched a game or two when he was at Jackson State with Deion and felt like he is a player one step away from being this great slot receiver in the league and I feel like if he would had stayed at one place for longer than a year would had helped him. Feel like year one is too early to judge him and rather give him two years to see what he is capable of.

Round 5, Pick 180: Seydou Traore (C)

I am unsure if we get a comp pick out of this or what, but either way, this is a project TE that had some good moments and some bad at Mississippi State and if he is our Jordan Mailata then I am willing to give him some time and grow.

Round 6, Pick 200: DJ Campbell (C)

Our FO loves Texas players. Think he is a decent OL and he will be a great depth piece for the interior, I don't know if he will be anything other than that but you also don't expect a lot out of a sixth rounder anyways and mostly drafting for depth purposes at this point.

Round 7, Pick 238: Max Llewellyn (A-)

I didn't know a whole lot about him heading into the draft and all I really knew is he is from Iowa and if you are from Iowa and play defense or OL or TE than you have to be a good NFL player. Than I was told a little more about him and did my own research and then I was like "we got a steal!" I don't expect a whole lot out of us this season but he might as well be starting for us near the end of the season,

Overall

I think this is an alright draft. We got some guys who I see as instant factors for us, then I see guys that are depth pieces and that is it. I should had expected this from our FO which the majority came from the Packers organization. I knew we wouldn't get a WR in the first round, I knew we would address CB instead, I knew that the GM saw edge as a major weak spot for us but wouldn't address it first thing, and I knew that we will address multiple positions multiple times. What I expected more of was address edge in day two, draft a QB to compete with Cam Miller, and take a swing at smaller school WR's similar to what the Packers did in 2022 instead of guys from Texas Tech, Louisville, and Missouri. Obviously, this is a way too early grading and we won't know how any of them really fit on this team until after the season or even two or three years from now.
