The Eagles are reeling from the loss in Super Bowl 57. The final QB kneels and the kick that gave the Chiefs the lead still haunts them. The last pass that couldn’t make it will stay in their minds until they will reach the top again. But, how can they get there? In this post I will try to get the Eagles back to a Super Bowl run by finding their new offensive and defensive coordinators, resigning and cutting players, and upgrading through trades, the draft, and free agency. This will be broken down into three parts, 1. Coordinators and resigning/ letting go of free agents, 2. Free agency, and 3. The draft and final depth chart/53 man roster. Enjoy!

First, the Eagles need to find their new coordinators to replace current head coaches Shane Steichen and Jonathan Gannon.

Eagles coordinators:

Offensive Coordinator: Brian Johnson

Brian Johnson is currently the Philadelphia Eagles QB coach. It wouldn’t take much to convince him to take this role, as this would be a noticeable upgrade for him. Johnson was a former QB who was the back up for Alex Smith on the Utah Utes and a starting quarterback for the New York Sentinels of the UFL (United Football League). He has turned Jalen Hurts from a project to the face of the franchise. The last time Johnson was a offensive coordinator was when a led the 2017 Houston Cougars to a 7-5 record and the Hawaii Bowl.

Here is a quote from Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni that shows the strength of Brian Johnson Via nbcsports.com “What you always want for coaches is to make this game that is complex, simple, because they’re making split-second decisions, You have to make it simple so you play fast. And Brian does a great job of that, just putting himself in the shoes of a quarterback because he’s been there, just simplifying the reads for them, simplifying the checks for them, simplifying the defense and chunking information together.”

Defensive Coordinator: Jerod Mayo

Jerod Mayo is currently the strong leader for the inside linebackers of the New England Patriots. He has helped Mat Judon unlock his greatness and turn him into a star. He was a an all-pro and Super Bowl champion linebacker himself (2008-2015) as a patriot. He has experience being a player so he will be able to further more help the eagles defense succeed. Mayo could help both Nakobe Dean (Linebacker) and Jordan Davis (defensive tackle) unlock their true potential, and could help elevate Haason Reddick (Linebacker), C.J. Gardner-Johnson (Strong Safety), and Josh Sweat ( Right Defensive End) to stardom.

Here is a quote from Lawrence Guy that encapsulates Mayo’s mentality perfectly via nesn.com “You can see what he does for the team,” Guy said. “He talks with us every day, regardless of role, making sure we understand what we have to do. And he allows us to speak our words: ‘What are your thoughts? I want you vocal.’ That’s the thing about him: You can’t sit there and retain, retain, retain. You’re going to have questions, so he wants you to be vocal enough to understand what’s going on. What are your concerns? How can we fix it? And if we can’t do anything, this is what’s going to hurt us on it, so make sure this doesn’t happen.”

Eagles Free Agents:

Resign

C.J. Gardner-Johnson ( Strong Safety)

He has quickly became a fan favorite and a staple of the Eagles defense. With 6 Interceptions and 8 Passes Defended, it would be hard to not offer him a big, multi-year contract.

Javon Hargrave ( Defensive Tackle)

In his stint with the Eagles, Hargrave has quickly became a household name. He has racked up 11 sacks as well as 16 QB hits this year, as well as forcing many bad passes and throwaways. He will most likely receive a major offer to comeback and help the Eagles compete next year.

Miles Sanders (Running Back)

Sanders is hometown hero from PA who has stepped it up this year. He put up 1,269 yards, 11 touchdowns, while averaging 4.9 yards a carry. Sanders should be added back to Philly so he can get closer to stardom.
 Jason Kelce (Center)

It would be atrocious if the Eagles didn’t resign Jason Kelce this year (unless he retires) to another contract. He is one of the best (if not the best) center in the league who made the pro bowl this year. His is the anchor of the line and must be brought back for another year.

T.J. Edwards (Linebacker)

Edwards is a sneakily underrated linebacker for the Eagles. He had 159 Tackles, 7 passes defended, and 2 Sacks. He should be brought back to the lineup to upgrade his stats.

Kyzir White (Linebacker)

Kyzir White is another hometown player who signed to the eagles last year. The Eagles should bring him back to compete for a chip again. He had 110 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 7 passes defended. Edwards, Reddick, and White (now with Mayo as the Defensive coach) will again form a great trio.

Isaac Seumalo (Right Guard)

Seumalo. Has been a formidable force in the line for midnight green. He has not reached the level of his friends on the line, but has still been a consistent player for the Eagles.

Fletcher Cox (Defensive Tackle)

Cox has been a mainstay for the Eagles since he has been drafted. Cox had 7 sacks and a forced fumble/ fumble recovery on the year. Cox should be brought on a small contract (like Graham) to help Jordan Davis grow to become an X-Factor.

Brandon Graham (Defensive End)

Graham is one the best Eagles to do it. He is fourth all time for the Eagles sack leaders (70.00) with who else but Cox (65.00) behind him. He had 11 sacks and 2 forced fumbles on the year. Graham should be given a smaller level contract to stick around.

Andre Dillard (Left Tackle)

Dillard has not had to most productive year as an Eagle. Dillard was a first round pick but has not lived up to that up to this point. But Dillard has a lot of potential and is still plenty helpful as a backup for Philly. He could also be used as a trade chip in the future.

Don’t Resign:

James Bradberry (Cornerback)

James Bradberry an incredible pickup by the Eagles last offseason, but now it is time to let him go. He had 44 Tackles, 3 Interceptions, 17 passes defended, and 1 Touchdown. Bradberry and Slay were a great one two punch, but he will cost to much to retain and the Eagles have many other chances to bulk to the Defensive Back area.

Marcus Epps (Strong Safety)

Epps had a ok season for the Eagles. He tallied 94 Tackles and 6 passes defended this year. Epps isn’t on the top of the Eagles must resign list and could probably replace him.

Linval Joseph (Defensive Tackle)

Linval Joseph was brought in (as well as Ndamukong Suh) as a quick fix for the Eagles Running defense woes. In eight games he put up 20 tackles and half a sack. Due to him only be a short term replacement and his age, he will probably be off the roster this year.

Brett Kern (Punter)

Brett Kern was also brought in only due to Arryn Siposs’ injury. He is a serviceable punter but will probably be back in free agency or on a different team to start next year.

Gardner Minshew (Quarterback)

Minshew Mania in Philly may have to come to an end. In his few games this year, he went 44 of 76 putting up 3 touchdowns to 3 interceptions. Minshew may be to expensive to Philly and could be replaced due to his subpar games.

Zach Pascal (Wide Receiver)

Zach Pascal’s time in Philly may come to an end this year. He had 15 receptions for 150 yards and a single touchdown. Pascal could be let go of for a different WR 4 this off-season.

Robert Quinn (Defensive End)

Robert Quinn may be as good as gone next year. Quinn was dealt from Chicago for a fourth round draft pick. He may be as gone as quick as he came in. He had two tackles this year and not much else. Philly should most likely let him move on to the next chapter of his career.

Boston Scott (Running Back)

Boston Scott may be one of the hardest guys to let go due to his age. Scott had 54 runs for 217 yards and three touchdowns. Scott may have to go so the Eagles have enough cap space, but it won’t be easy to do.

Ndamukong Suh (Defensive Tackle)

Ndamukong Suh (like Linval Joseph) was brought in as a replacement for the injured Jordan Davis. He totaled 10 tackles and a sack this year. Suh will most likely not be brought back but will be remembered as a fierce competitor.

Tyree Jackson (Tight End)

Lastly, Tyree Jackson will also be let go. Jackson is a young Tight End for the Eagles, who had 3 receptions for 22 yards and a touchdown. Jackson’s production would easily be replaced by other guys ( like up-and-comer Grant Calcaterra).

This what I think the Eagles should do to start the off-season. This is the first of three parts, so look out for part two which is coming out soon!
