The Indiana Colts would make this move to create a clean reset at quarterback. After committing to Daniel Jones with a major extension, the era of Anthony Richardson in Indianapolis would effectively be over. Keeping him as a backup while coming off a rough season and injury could create unnecessary distractions. Since his value has dropped after a low completion rate and the orbital injury in 2025, getting a third round pick might be the best realistic return. The trade would also free up cap space and allow the front office to fully focus on building the roster around Jones’ skill set.
The Green Bay Packers would see this as a low risk, high upside development move. Matt LaFleur has shown he can work with dual threat quarterbacks, and bringing in Anthony Richardson would give the team an elite athlete to develop behind Jordan Love. It provides a high ceiling insurance option that their current backups don’t offer. If Richardson improves in Green Bay’s system, he could either become a long-term asset or eventually be flipped for a higher draft pick, making the cost of a third-rounder a reasonable gamble.
