My New York Giants Coaching Candidate Tier List 2.0

Back for the second updated list out of the two. The Giants. Below is the links to the original lists and the Titans updated list and eventually this one will be added as well.

https://fanspo.com/nfl/s/general/p/7139yP7O69m7sM/nfl-coach-candidate-tier-list-links

We all know what happened in New York... Well, actually New Jersey, but either way, Daboll's time was obviously running out as soon as we entered the season the reason they had Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, Jaxson Dart, and at one point Tommy DeVito all on the same roster showing that they are trying to win somehow using one of these quarterbacks who will somehow win games for us. It didn't work and we all know how the story went as we all kept up with this team all season like it was a soap opera, now they are looking for a new voice and is widely considered one of the top jobs available this season. I feel like the Giants will throw a wide net out there and can probably attract some really good names and options than compared to let's say the Titans and the Cardinals.

Young Names, Fresh Faces

  • Jesse Minter, Los Angeles Chargers (DC; 2024-?)

I don't necessarily see anyone on this tier as THE top option, but instead see all of them (in no particular order) to be options 1A, 1B, and 1C. Minter is the first one on the list I will mention because I see him as more accomplished than the other two while the other two are considered more proven. Minter has no HC experience whatsoever but brings DC experience from the college and NFL levels. Minter has also showed to be a fantastic developer able to get the defense to improve in nearly every stat possible from last year and this season shown the growth in young guys like Tuli Tuipulotu, Daiyan Henley, and Justin Eboigbe. I think he can be a great fit to get the defense rolling, just needs to hire an OC to help with Dart's development which is yet to be seen at this moment.

  • Jeff Hafley, Green Bay Packers (DC; 2024-?)

You might be seeing the trend so far. Hafley also has DC experience in both levels and he also brings in HC experience from Boston College. He has completely rebuilt what was a lackluster defense when he got there to a top 10 D in two years, thanks slightly in part to the addition to Micah Parsons. They did go on a four game losing streak to finish seventh place in the NFL after once looking like they had that NFC North in their hands, but injuries caught up to them with Devonte Wyatt and Micah Parsons out for season. Despite that, I think he can bring in fresh scene for the much needed defense and could quite possibly unlock Abdul Carter after a season everyone expected to blow up. I think we also have a good idea who he would hire as his OC with the Cowboy's QB coach Steve Shimko being his OC at his last two seasons at BC. Dak had an amazing season and Shimko may bring what he learned from Schottenheimer and Klayton Adams and adapt it to the Giants playbook.

  • Kliff Kingsbury, Washington Commanders (OC; 2024-?)

We know what we are getting in Kliff, former Texas Tech and Arizona Cardinals HC who coached Patrick Mahomes, Kyler Murray, and Jayden Daniels, Kliff can be what Jaxson Dart needs. I already touched on this on the Titans list, but I think teams will hire not based on his past team success, but on QB success.

Assistants On The Rise

  • Klint Kubiak, Seattle Seahawks (OC; 2025-?)

He has done a fantastic job this season and got this Seahawks team in the playoffs with his offensive play calling complimenting that stellar defense. My only worry is that Klint's career has seemed to be a roller coaster and I kinda need to see another year at Seattle if I were a GM before I hire him.

  • Chris Shula, Los Angeles Rams (DC; 2024-?)

The grandson of the late great Don Shula. He has a stellar defense with two edge young edge rushers out there filling the pass rush void left when DT Aaron Donald retired two seasons ago before he took over. Shula will be a prized candidate for anyone, but what I am seeing and what my biggest fear is that once they hire Chris, they will not be satisfied with him because they expected him to be Don. I don't want him in Miami (if he had fired McDaniel) because I want him to make his own name for himself and not be glued to the hip to his dead grandfather.

  • Matt Burke, Houston Texans (DC; 2023-?)

Burke is an underrated candidate for an upgrade. I got to watch him in his first DC role at Miami and thought he was promising, and has proven to be a fantastic DC in Houston and a fantastic play caller after taking over the plays after week 4 this season. He isn't getting much attention on him as he is silently creeping into the top of this candidate list.

Former Head Coaches

  • Vance Joseph, Denver Broncos (DC; 2023-?)

In this tier, the only currently employed. Feel like he has reinvented himself and will make a fantastic HC wherever he gets his second chance at.

  • Mike McCarthy, former Green Bay Packers (2006-18) and Dallas Cowboys (2020-24) Head Coach

This would be a safe hire bringing him in just to get Dart going as he has a great track record with franchise QB's in Dak Prescott and Aaron Rodgers. Not sure if this is the voice the Giants need.

  • Kevin Stefanski, former Cleveland Browns Head Coach (2020-25)

He was able to make it to the playoffs twice with much less talent than the Giants currently have. Stefanski seems to be getting traction for multiple open positions and the Giants may be able to run up and snag him before anyone else can.

Wild Card

  • John Harbaugh, Baltimore Ravens (2008-?)

Every team (with a job open or without) are sitting on their edge on their seats waiting for the Ravens to reveal the decision on John Harbaugh as there is not really any tea leaves saying he is leaving or if he is even staying put. This is going to be a wait and see situation and if he does leave, the Giants are seen as one of the top jobs to go after him.

Off My List

  • Steve Spagnuolo, Kansas City Chiefs (DC; 2019-?)

Let's remove three candidates that I had on my list last time, starting with Spags. He is 66 and there seems to be so many younger DC's out there that the Giants would pursue in hopes of finding the long term answer and not a guy they can have for five at most.

  • Bill Belichick, North Carolina (2025-?)

Speaking of long term. Unless his girlfriend is expected to be his successor, Chapel Bill Season 2 will go forth and he will not be back in the NFL any time soon.

  • Robert Saleh, San Francisco 49ers (DC; 2025-?)

It doesn't seem like Saleh will return as a HC this season and will have to have another good year to prove he is ready for a second chance. Plus, I don't think Giants fans want a Jets coach.

There we go, both previous jobs opened has now got an updated list by me. Please let me know your thoughts down below and also let me know what you want to see next?
