As we all know after trading away dexter Lawrence the giants need a defensive tackle. Although vita vea isn’t as good as dexter, and he never will be, this is a very hard bar to pass, and he could be a darn good replacement. The giants also buy low on vita because he is on an expiring contract, and the idea is immediately extending him after trading for him. Losing a second rounder hurts in this deal, (along with a 6th rounder) but imo it is worth it because when you pair him with Kayvon thibodeaux, rookie and top 5 pick arvelle reese (I thought he would go #2, so imo he was a steal) and an improving Abdul Carter, and other promising defensive pieces that giants have, this team could make life very difficult for opposing offenses.

As for Tampa Bay, I think the explanation is a lot more simple. If Vea is requesting a trade, that means he is likely unhappy with the organization or his extension talks, so the best thing you can do is trade him, similarly to the dexter Lawrence problem. Second rounders are genuinely pretty valuable so to get that and a 6th rounder is great for a disgruntled player who is expiring.
