Position: OT
School: Ohio State
Height: 6’5
Weight: 310 lb
Background:
Growing up in San Diego, Simmons at first chose the hometown Aztecs, then transferred to Ohio State following his freshman year, and he made an instant impact the second he arrived in Columbus. However, he did suffer a knee injury this year that may hurt his draft stock.
Pros:
Imposing frame for a tackle
Exceptional arm length
Powerful upper body strength
Explosive initial step for his size
Played well against good competition
Versatile, can play guard as well
Can overwhelm linebackers and safeties
Great agility
Cons:
Penalty prone
Can start off slow at times
Inconsistent hand placement
Struggles with foot speed and mirroring agile pass rushers off the edge, often overextending and losing balance
Run blocking technique needs improvement
Knee injury is a red flag
Summary:
Simmons has a ton of upside and some very good traits. If he can get his career back on track following that knee injury, then he has all the tools to turn into an elite tackle at the NFL level.
