Spurs Offseason Plan

SUCCESS

San Antonio is about a year away from being a year away and trading for Cam Johnson is a move that tries to lower that to just one year away. Spurs also resign their positively contributing players that are free agents in CP, Mamu, and Bassey. They also bring in Brook Lopez to pair a big with Wemby. For the Nets, this is probably on the lower end of reasonable offers they are receiving/have received, but not awful trade value for Cam Johnson. Spurs have the ability to throw a small lineup around Wemby (Fox, Castle, C. Johnson, Vassell/Sochan/Barnes) or go big and put Brook and Wemby on the floor together and not sacrifice perimeter jump shooting. Substituting KJ for Cam Johnson gives the Spurs a lot more lineup versatility and turns the wing position from a log jam of non-shooters into having a pretty good rotation with shooting and size. In a very deep Western Conference, they are almost certainly still on the outside looking in and gunning for the play-in. Assuming the Spurs don't make a move for Giannis or KD, with these moves, the Spurs are looking to compete for 8th or 7th seed in the West, and hoping the core idea of Fox, Castle, and Wemby continues to gel. The Spurs gain a lot of depth here and put themselves in a great position to compete for a higher seed in the West in the 2027-2028 season.
