The one weakness in this 2025 OKC Champions was the lack of consistent shooting. Unfortunately they just couldn't get Isaiah Joe onto the floor during the playoffs due to his defence, and so he couldn't get into a rhythm to try and provide Shai with a reliable kickout option. Cam Johnson's the size to not get as picked on by Joe, at least be serviceable on the defence end to not compromise OKC's defensive first identity, while providing them critical lights out shooting ability. Johnson's contract is only two years, so it won't coincide with the Shai, Dub & Chet extensions. It lines up with Isaiah Hartenstein's 2 more years, making this a clear cut championship window for this version of the Thunder. Johnson is of course more then just a shooter, he can put the ball on the floor and be a connective passer. That is all OKC needs. You want a guy who won't take the ball out of Shai & Jdubs hands, while also still give room for Chet to grow. I personally think OKC's biggest improvement next year will come from having a healthy Chet. Chet probably won't ever be an elite scorer of the ball, but he has got the ability to go from 15 points per game, to 19-20 points per game next season on good efficiency if given a run way with limited injuries. OKC will also have AJ Mitchell and Nikola Topic back from injuries. Some Thunder fans have worries about not having a certified back up ball handler. I don't really share those concerns, I want the ball to be in Shai and JDubs hands as much as possible, but regardless if they need that role they already have those two players to fulfil it. AJ especially showed great signs, his dribble, pass and shoot ability is fantastic, and he knows how to make the right offensive play when on the ball. Anyway, I don't think this trade needs to happen for the Thunder, internal development should be more then enough to have them back again for next season, but I do think this trade would help the chances of going back to back.
