Houston gets off of injured players, gets a good point guard for the Durant tenure, and some situationally helpful players. they give up Jabari who is starting slow and might not fit on the floor with that roster. depending on how you feel about Jabari it's a pretty cheap move to secure a real point guard or it's an enormous overpay.
Portland gets a flyer on Jabari on what could be a good contract and change of pace. give up the one working point guard right now so they sign Banton who has been on the team in past seasons, while Scoot, Wesley, FVV, and Dame get healthy. Portland s probably playing bad until at least Scoot comes back but are set up for the 26-27 season. depending on how you feel about Jabari it's a guy who can play forward and center situationally with the other bigs without giving up any future assets or it's abandoning a guard who is delivering right and some situationally helpful players now for a bust you have to pay for another 5 years and some injured guys.
I think I like it for both teams. it's definitely a future play for Portland who will be very light on healthy guards for a minute, but they will have plenty of guards going forward. I think Houston has a lot of options and I don't know how exciting this would be for them in comparison to other options, Jrue has walked in and won championships at his last two stops and looks healthier and better right now than he has looked in the last couple years and definitely plays the brand of defensive basketball Houston wants to play.
