Very good scoring mentality. Percentages don’t reflect how gifted he is. He’s confident. Takes a ton of questionable shots, but the raw talent is certainly there. Has great footwork in terms of stepbacks and overall shiftiness,. One of the best eye fakers in the class. The threat of his pull up and OTD shooting puts defenders in the air easily.
Good at using angles to squeeze his way into driving lanes. Creates space with the ball well. Draws fouls at an exceptional rate. This is primarily due to high usage as well as his deception. Really good at initiating and seeking contact.
Sometimes he tries to do too much. Tries to force foul calls, shots, etc. Leads to a lot of turnovers and it’s a predictable style of play. He possesses the scoring gravity to create open looks for teammates, but the vision and/or willingness to give up the ball isn’t there. Gets tunnel vision often, misses open shooters and forces tough 2’s way too often.
Has potential to be a good off-ball shooter, but too often he’ll follow the ball around like he’s in a 2nd grade league. Doesn’t really seem to grasp spacing, and he’s always looking to get the ball right back after he gives it up. I do like his scoring mentality but it’s just too much at times when he isn’t hitting.
Doesn’t give a shit on defense. He’ll let cutters go by, he gets caught ball watching. He’ll stunt at the wrong times. Basically makes one half-hearted effort at contesting a drive or a shot and then he gets bored and sits there.
Caught upright a lot. Always late to react. Seems to space out when he’s not directly involved on either end.
Decent athlete that has potential to hang on an NBA floor, but I’m not sure if he is ready yet mentally. Needs to buy in a lot more. Hard to evaluate just because he doesn’t try on defense. But on offense he’s got pretty good quickness combined with deceptiveness. Not a great vertical athlete.
The scoring is what gets him on the floor early. He’s not afraid, has ultimate confidence, and can take and make big shots. If he can manage to supply the firepower he had at LSU while operating on a shorter leash, he can be pretty effective.
