Imagine buying a swiss army knife and sharpening the blade as soon as you buy it. You then give it the most functional athleticism in the world, along with an ideal frame. After doing those things, then, and only then, do you get Aminu Mohammed. He is simultaneously a glass cleaner and a playmaker. He uses his tough as nails mentality to grab ridiculous amounts of rebounds against guys 5-7 inches taller than him. Being a great rebounder takes more than just getting rebounds. It takes strength, athleticism, and an eye for the ball. Aminu can use those fundamental skills and apply them to other parts of his game. While he needs to work on his shooting among other things, he does all of the things that are so called "unteachable." He is a long, rangy, high level defender. At the next level, he may be capable of putting up 2 steals, and 2 blocks per game. That just shows what type of athlete he his. He humbles himself, and gets dirty. In a nutshell, Mohammed is a winning player at it's finest.

Strengths:

  • Footwork is absolutely incredible, has an amazing bag of spin moves, pivots and jabs

  • Handle is tight as it will ever be and operates amazing out of the iso

  • Shot mechanics look pretty smooth

  • 3 point shot is developing quite nicely

  • Super quick on his feet which gives him a lot of upside as a perimeter defender

  • Gets a lot of steals

Flaws:

  • Is very old for a freshman, turning 21 this year

  • Was a very inefficient scorer this year

  • Didn't score nearly as much as he should have being at a lower tier school

  • Has no true position, is classified as a point guard but seems to get all his buckets in the post

  • Doesn't show much playmaking upside for a point guard

Tries to create for himself at will. One commenter said it best "He tries to make SportsCenter every time he touches the ball."

Looks like he can hold his own as a defender, but goes straight up at the rim to score. Not many three-point attempts in his highlight reel.
