Big Board Rankings

Strengths

  • "Knockdown shooter who thrives running off screens and using manipulative moves to shake loose from defenders. Despite unorthodox mechanics

  • he shot 43 percent from 3 and 80 percent from the line in four years at TCU."

  • "Comfortable shooting off the dribble. He won’t be an iso threat in the pros

  • but can attack a mismatch or pull-up to punish a scrambling defense."

  • "Excels at pick-and-roll decision-making

  • playing with pace and delivering accurate passes all over the court."

  • "Solid finisher who can use either hand around the rim. He has touch

  • which is vital since he lacks hops."

  • "Decisive player who reads the floor at a high level. He cuts and relocates well and facilitates effectively and intentionally."

  • "Excellent defensive fundamentals: He sits in his stance and rapidly reacts to cut off drives. With a strong frame and quick hands

  • he has versatility."

  • "Veteran

  • experienced wing who thrived in college in every possible situation from a role player to a No. 1 option"

  • "Elite caliber shooter who averaged 44.2% from 3 on 208 3-point attempts last season with TCU"

  • "Over-stretched as a playmaker at TCU

  • but his decision-making as a creator and facilitator should translate to positive playmaking on the wing in the NBA (finished second among Big 12 players last season during conference play in total assist rate

  • per KenPom)"

Areas to Improve

  • "He needs to tighten his handle to create space against athletic defenders. Though he improved in that area at TCU

  • he still has room to grow."

  • "Lack of burst or a quick first step

  • plus his short arms

  • could limit both his at-rim finishing ability and his defensive impact."

  • "Defensive versatility is questionable on paper because of his physical and athletic profile."

  • "Good overall positional size but negative wingspan and limited athleticism could sap his upside to be a truly positionless defender

  • despite 6-foot-6 frame"

  • "Doesn''t have the space-creating or dribbling ability to project as a No. 1 option; likely to be a 3-point specialist in the NBA who serves in 3-and-D role with limited star potential"

44.2% on 6.2 att from 3. ELITE SHOOTER. Comfortable coming off screens to catch and shoot. 40.9% off screens 2nd in the country. ELITE OFF BALL PLAYER. 44.2% over 496 attempts last 3 years. Fine off dribble. Hang dribble guy. 1.07 PPP off dribble - 13th overall min 100 att Wingspan just 6''5"... Not great in transition. Plays hard and has great D IQ - not great foot speed though. GREAT OFF BALL DEFENSE. Can guard 3-4, maybe 2''s. 3.9 Assists per game. Can make some plays. 1.1 PPP on PNR. May surprisingly be a top 5 passer in the class. EXCELLENT AWARENESS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL. Lateral quicks not greater than average. Needs to tighten handles to get the most out of his step backs and playmaking abilities. Malcolm Brogdon, shades of Eric Gordon Comp seems fair.

NBA Comparison: Courtney Lee Strengths: Has something very valuable in today’s NBA landscape, and that is high level shooting. As a senior, Bane nailed 42% of his three point attempts, and posted a 3 point percentage over 40% in 3 full NCAA seasons. Bane has excellent range on his jumper, and great in spot up situations as well as shooting off the dribble. He’d be an immediate asset to an NBA team spacing the floor at the two spot. At 6’6” Bane possesses a chiseled frame, and high level strength that will be able to handle the rigors of an NBA season, and larger opponents. His 16.6 points as a senior were primarily earned from the perimeter, but Desmond does have the ability to get into the lane and is very good at using his powerful body to take impact and create distance from opposing shot blockers. Nice touch around the rim, and solid ability to adjust in mid air while getting to the hoop. A smart player who had to become more of a distributor during his senior season. He averaged 3

NBA ready player, excellent shooter. He has not too much upside, but he can be useful to many (just now) good teams
