He's got a great frame, and does everything that a winning player does. He really doesn't do enough things at a high level to make a longterm impact though.

Pre-Draft Team Minas Storm

Offense

  • Developing perimeter shooting. Still much of a work in progress, but his shooting base doesn't have any major concerns. The lift is fairly straight up and down, and the release is high. Still looks somewhat stiff (may be age and growth). Release is also slow right now.

  • Potential to be able to shoot a little bit off dribble and coming off screens.

  • Free throw percentage at 69% this year, an improvement. Would like to see this sit comfortably in the mid-high seventies.

  • Very good straight line speed in transition.

  • High motor guy, wants to elevate his teams energy level.

  • Good effort crashing the offensive glass.

  • Functional handle, still room for combo moves and to tighten up.

  • Really strong percentages finishing around the rim, will face far more rim protectors in the NBA. This will be a period of adapting his decision making.

  • Workable floater.

  • Real upside as a slashing playmaker. Likes to keep his head up while attacking to find guys under the cup.

Defense

  • Great defensive engagement.

  • Can be beat off the dribble, but stays with his man and recovers to alter shots, often for misses or blocks.

  • Smart footwork, good hip movement overall.

  • Strong and long physically imposing player. Needs to maximize both these assets to reach max defensive potential.

  • Reason to believe Gui can guard all five positions, at the very least three. Tremendous defensive upside. His most intriguing asset.

Swing Factors

  • Elite Skill - Gui has potential in almost every area, but is there one that he thrives in most? Right now his best asset is his length and size.

  • Hip movement, flexibility - Staying flexible and loose will be especially key for Santos. If he moves well in the NBA he can become a big time defender with outstanding versatility. If he stays flexible and his coordination takes off his shot creation and playmaking ability could reach untapped potential levels.

Role

  • A long, strong, two way threat Gui works on improving the nuisances in his game, but immediately contributes with athleticism and effort.

  • LOW: Gui can't find a skill he absolutely thrives in, and his athleticism doesn't quite translate to the NBA he is used as a versatile reserve player to patch up holes in the rotation.

  • HIGH: Santos begins his career finding the floor due to length, versatility, and effort while his skillset simmers into a boil. His scoring and playmaking bag blossoms, and he turns out to be the best defender of his class known for his versatility and ability to defend five positions. He is a future all-star.
