GSW Position: PG

Highs: a passing pg first, making the right plays, vocal telling everyone where they need to be, likes to pass in the left corner for open three point shooters (he can find them with ease), stocky frame

Lows: needs shooters around him in order for his gifts to show all the way, if the paint is clogged it is hard for him to finish over long arms, a really small guard (but about 6’2 with shoes on)

STRENGTHS:

  • Very great finisher at 61% at the rim; does a real good job of finessing shots over defenders with a quick release and great footwork

  • As a distributor, he is one of the best in the class; can operate in high-pressure pick and rolls, can zip passes cross court and manipulate defenders with his eyes and find open cutters. Passing will be his best trait from the jump

  • Has a bigger frame as a small guard; defensively does a great job of being in front of his man and allowing zero space to operate. A huge irritant on that end

  • Has good touch around the rim and from the free throw line (78% last season) to warrant some potential shooting upside

  • Demonstrated great leadership who helps his team get an edge due to his hustle and spirit

WEAKNESSES:

  • Very small player at 6 feet; will be targeted to the extreme even if the effort he gives defensively is awesome

  • Not much of a shooter from anywhere; shot 37% from the mid-range, 30% from three and 33% on catch and shoot threes. Will have to develop a reliable offense perimeter shot to consistently get 20 minutes a night

  • Will have to play in a system that does not demand much switching; he will be a liability if he is constantly the burden switching onto bigger wings like how NBA teams try to do with small players

Best role upon entering the NBA: Back-up point guard who will provide good defensive spurts and excellent basketball IQ and passing ability

Player Comparison: Shades of TJ McConnell and Cam Payne

Pro Comparison: Jose Alvarado

++Strengths:++

  1. Elite defender who is a tenacious lockdown on-ball as he harassed players sticking to them like glue

  2. Strong for his size and has strong touch near the rim

  3. He's a good passer and an unselfish point guard who sets his teammates up with his drives

++Weaknesses:++

  1. Very undersized

  2. His offensive role is a concern as he's only a career 29% 3-point shooter throughout college and didn't improve between his junior and senior seasons

A dynamic, once-a-generation collegiate player. One of the least mistake-prone high-usage collegiate point guards I've ever seen, while also carrying a high-scoring load. If he can get that 3 ball to league average, there's a future for him.
