This guy puts the ball on the floor and plays with intensity. He's a dog defender, with all the tools to become an NBA player. If he can polish his offensive game, he'll earn a roster spot.

Pre-Draft Team Seton Hall Pirates

Offense

  • Upside as a shooter. Went from a 57% FT shooter to 80%+ his last two years.

  • Flashes of a smooth scorer in the mid range with pull ups.

  • Moves well without the ball as a cutter.

  • Not an explosive first step or overly impressive as a finisher near the rim.

  • Not really a shot creator for himself or others.

Defense

  • A lot of fluidity as a mover. Potential to defend 1-4.

  • Big upside as a perimeter defender. Active hands as well.

  • Has to get better closing out, undisciplined and can overcommit. Gambles too much.

Swing Factors

  • Perimeter Shooting Consistency - Needs to be able to knock down his looks to solidify himself as a 3 & D guy.

  • Defensive Technique - While there is high upside defensively, we need to see Rhoden clean up some of the overcommitals, gambles, and poor close outs to maximize him defensively.

Role

  • A 3 & D prospect with nice athleticism.

  • LOW: Rhoden doesn't knock down his shots with enough consistency and he isn't technically sound enough to be the defender originally thought. He struggles to latch on with a team in the league.

  • HIGH: Rhoden knocks down his perimeter looks at a high clip and offers plus-plus perimeter defense and versatility defending a multitude of players. Rhoden comfortably sits in rotations as a 3 & D wing for years to come.

Shoutout Long Island native Jared Rhoden for making it this far. The Seton Hall senior put his name on the map by leading the Pirates to the tournament. I can see Rhoden's name flying up draft boards the closer we get to draft time. With Rhoden, we are talking about a 6'6 forward with a 6'11 wingspan who plays with a ton of energy. I think NBA teams love his potential as a defender. He makes all the hustle plays and does the dirty work for teams. He fights hard on screens. He has an impressive ability to recover. He communicates well. His motor and intensity on defense may as well be the tool that gets him drafted. Offensively, he does have a good amount of room to grow. Rhoden was an inconsistent shooter on the college level. His free throw percentage gives off hope that he can become a good shooter eventually. I liked what I saw from him as a mid range shooter. His corner three point shot looked good as well as he loved to shoot from it. His potential as a secondary playmaker is also there. He has good vision. He made smart and necessary passes to cutters. I thin Rhoden has a ton of potential to be a solid role player on an NBA roster and I probably have him higher than most people. I hope Rhoden gets a chance to succeed.
