JT Toppin High End: Larry Nance Jr. Low End: Juwan Morgan Median outcome: 21/22 Precious Achiuwa Pros: Athleticism, rebounding, interior scoring, defense Cons: Size, shot consistency, handle Verdict: JT Toppin was a fringe first round prospect last season, and he’s followed it up by being one of the most productive P5 players in the country this season in a competitive Texas Tech team that relies on his offensive rebounding for second chance scores. He’s a bouncy athlete with high motor on the boards while also having good instincts on the defensive end with the occasional block or steal to start the break. His soft touch inside the arc allows him to get buckets despite being an undersized big, measuring in at 6'7" without shoes which would be tweener size in the league. His size deficiencies are also further hampered by his 3pt shot which has only flashed in moments and his bad FT%. However, Toppin has shown some intrigue as he does take a lot of long midrange shots which hopefully could translate into the league. His self-creation off the dribble is basically negligible at this point, so Toppin’s outcome is likely to be capped at a starter ceiling at best.
