Big time scorer that moves well with or without the ball. Solid at getting to the rim but may not translate to the next level. Would like to see more on defense. Caris Levert

High End: Jordan Poole Low End: James Bouknight Median outcome: Reggie Jackson Pros: Good 3 level scorer (really adept at getting to the rim and was a sharpshooter in his SO year), rebounder, playmaking (for someone forced into the role) Cons: Not an explosive athlete, defense Verdict: Has been excellent despite being forced into an unfamiliar role as a lead playmaking guard. Kam's track record as a scorer has been really good for the past 3 years to the point where even despite his 2025 shooting downturn, it's easy to imagine him ending up as an impact player in the league as an off the bench sparkplug offense guy.

Scouting Report: Kam Jones

Position: Guard
Height/Weight: 6'5", 200 lbs
School: Marquette University

Draft Projection: Late first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft

Overview:
Kam Jones is a skilled and versatile guard who has been a standout player for the Marquette Golden Eagles. Known for his scoring ability and leadership, he has consistently delivered strong performances throughout his college career. His combination of shooting, playmaking, and defensive effort makes him an intriguing prospect for the NBA.

Strengths:

  • Scoring Ability: A natural scorer who can create his own shot and score efficiently at all three levels—inside, mid-range, and beyond the arc.

  • Playmaking: Displays solid court vision and passing ability, making him a capable secondary playmaker.

  • Leadership: A vocal leader on the court, known for his competitive spirit and ability to rally his team.

  • Consistency: Has a proven track record of delivering in high-pressure situations, including NCAA Tournament games.

Areas for Improvement:

  • Three-Point Shooting: While capable, improving his consistency from deep will elevate his offensive impact.

  • Defense: Needs to refine his lateral quickness to guard elite NBA guards effectively.

  • Physicality: Adding strength will help him handle the physical demands of the NBA.

Player Comparisons:

  • Malcolm Brogdon (for his scoring and playmaking balance)

  • Jordan Clarkson (for his ability to create and score off the dribble)

Summary:
Kam Jones is a well-rounded guard with the potential to carve out a significant role in the NBA. His scoring ability, leadership, and versatility make him a valuable asset for teams looking for a reliable backcourt player. With continued development, he could become a key contributor at the next level.

KAM JONES

Position/Archetype: Creative Combo Guard

College: Marquette

Pros:

  • Ball Handle: Ok Pretty nifty handle here, he keeps the ball really close to him, has a nice rhythm and sets himself up very well, very efficient driver to the rim and uses an array of nice moves you expect from an older combo Guard like himself. Loves to go to his spin move and has a decent bag but maybe goes back to the basket too much for my liking

  • Finishing: prefers the left hand but has a pretty scoop based bag of layups and is patient enough to find a good look at the rim over a defender, he can reverse or go high off the backboard and maybe use his floater. can draw a lot of contact for and 1 plays too

  • Kick out passing: He drives quite a lot and one thing he's been able to do efficiently is kick out through various passes but more commonly wrapping the ball over his head back out to the three point line to create open looks off his driving gravity and a collapsed defence.

  • Spot up shooting: Efficient off the catch and bounce but not really convinced totally by it or him gaining much gravity on the 3 point line. But the efficiency is there as an off ball player.

  • Positional Size and defensive translation: He's quite big size wise and pretty strong which is good for him guar both guard positions but really nothing else intrigues me on the defensive side. I don't think he's anything to write home about on the NBA level but doesn't make many mistakes and will need to adapt to the NBA defensive system as he is someone I view as scheme reliant.

Cons:

  • Age: 23 year old prospect with very little room to grow size wise but also skillset wise, its just harder to make people adapt to new positional needs and team needs the older they are so this caps him.

  • Athleticism: For guards Kam looks like a pretty below average athletic guy which we usually don't see from this type of guard. simply isn't very explosive or fast on the court and has to rely on his diverse skillset to find open shots and get good looks so personally this is my big question on what holds him back.

  • Left Hand Dominance: Teams were able to take away his left hand at times which makes him a lot less uncomfortable as a finisher, he can get scouting reported pretty easily for this and I expect this to be something he has to balance to find consistent minutes.

  • Moving Shot and Mid Range: Regressed moving three point shooting and off the dribble three point shooting as well as low mid range volume and really no mid range game at all, I personally think you must be able and willing to shoot moving shots as a bench creator and scoring guard in the NBA so I really am unsure over this.

NBA Pro Comp: Malcolm Brogdon, Reggie Jackson

Projection: I just don't see what makes him someone who can get consistent NBA minutes, I think he might be an end of bench called upon when needed scoring guard or doesn't end up doing much in the league at all.

  • Big time wing scorer

  • Scorers at every level

  • High IQ

  • Makes smart switches on Defense and mismatches on Offense

  • Strong handle

  • Off ball movement isn't bad but could be improved

  • Needs to fine tune defense to prevent stupid mistakes

  • Comp: Jordan Poole / Lonnie Walker IV / Malcolm Brogdon

  • Ceiling: Borderline ALL-STAR

  • Floor: Bench

  • Expectation: 6MOTY

  • What to Expect: Very good scorer, which brings a sparkplug off the bench. But would struggle to find his place in a starting lineup due to how ball dominant he tends to play

(4/5) TBC

Senior PG with scoring chops and big playmaking game.

Kam Jones was My Guy going into March Madness. Marquette felt like a team that could make it really far. Of course, Marquette didn't make it out of the first round, but that doesn't change my point: Kam Jones is seriously good.

Turned 23 in 2025, one of the oldest prospects in the draft. Obviously, a huge ceiling limiter.

Maybe the best playmaker in the draft? Super high volume, pinpoint passes, creative, focused, everything.

Surprisingly low free throw numbers. Really struggled to get there, and his % for his career is mid 60s. Big concern for the portability of his game if he's so avoidant of contact at the next level.

Good finisher with solid volume. Great inbetween game, knows when to pull up for best results.

Had a down year from 3, but has consistently shown a high level of shooting ability. Last year he shot 6.5 per game on 41%.

Comp: poor man's Malcolm Brogdon
