Offense

  • Crafty, deceptive, creative ball handler. Can get to his spots for pull ups, finishes or triples.

  • High percentage shot creator inside the arc, the upside of a three level scorer, but can struggle to get all the way to the rack.

  • Inconsistent perimeter shooter, sometimes takes tough shots, but a career 79% FT shooter. Should be able to knock down average or slightly above in the league.

  • Not much of a playmaker for others.

Defense

  • Handled closeouts on perimeter shooters fairly well with his length.

  • Not good going around screens and can be an absolute liability.

  • Fairly active hands may collect a steal here and there.

Swing Factors

  • Perimeter Shooting Consistency - If McGusty is a consistent perimeter shooter he will be able to stay on the floor, otherwise his mid range and attack game that is questionable for the NBA may not be enough.

  • Defensive Consistency - On a nightly basis can McGusty defend well enough to justify keeping his offense on the floor?

Role

  • A shifty high energy scoring guard.

  • LOW: McGusty's draft age, defensive deficiencies and offensive translatability questions are too much to overcome. He goes overseas to become a successful scoring guard.

  • HIGH: McGusty's electric scoring translates to the league and his perimeter shooting becomes more reserved for good shots boosting his percentage. Defensively he closes out well, plays okay on ball and works hard to not be a liability. He eventually works his way into the front 7 or 8 of a rotation somewhere as a bench shot creator.
