Big Board Rankings

Strengths

  • "Excellent size for a point guard at 6-foot-5. Has a good frame and a long wingspan

  • which will allow him to defend point guards

  • shooting guards and potentially even small forwards."

  • "Plays with a controlled pace in the pick-and-roll. He loves to use hesitations to compensate for his lack of athleticism. He’s a dual threat

  • dangerous as both a passer and shooter off the dribble."

  • "Shoots well off the catch and off the dribble. He’s not dynamic

  • but has nice form and can score when called upon."

  • "Crafty finisher who is comfortable scoring off the wrong foot or with his off-hand. He has a nice touch on off-balance layups

  • finger rolls

  • and floaters."

  • "Sturdy frame with long arms; he projects as a reliable man-to-man defender if his fundamentals improve."

  • "He has made steady progress each season and possesses a high work ethic. He’s also mentored by Spurs legend Tony Parker."

  • "Crafty scorer around the rim who plays with smarts

  • and can manufacture shots for himself and for others"

  • "Improving shooter

  • especially from distance"

  • "Versatile backcourt player

  • with the skill set to play either guard spot"

Areas to Improve

  • "Didn''t play a huge role for ASVEL as one of three point guards on the roster. Started some games

  • but only averaged 17 MPG. Often operates alongside a lead guard in more of a spot-up role. Wasn''t too efficient this season

  • posting a high turnover rate and average shooting percentages."

  • "Struggles to create space despite his change of pace and use of in-out dribbles and crossovers. He gets enveloped by quality defenders who beat him to his spot

  • and currently lacks the ability to counterattack."

  • "Doesn’t put a lot of pressure on the rim as a ball handler

  • which may limit his value as a playmaker if he’s not creating angles for kickout 3s. The flashes are there

  • but he must master his handle."

  • "Despite his size

  • he hasn’t had success on switches against larger players

  • offering little resistance."

  • "He defends on his heels

  • which slows down his lateral slides. And he bites on too many shot fakes."

  • "Good speed dulled by lack of athleticism"

  • "Struggles to create space off the dribble"

  • "Average ball-handling ability; can easily get cornered by top defenders and needs to sharpen his handles with both hands"

Smart and sound passer. Mentored by Tony Parker which shows up around the basket. Finishes 57% around the cup. Was favorite for Eurocup Rising Star won by Rubio, Luke, Mirotic, Bogdanovic, Bitadaze. Floater. Crafty finisher. 36.7% from 3 in Euro play. Solid form. Needs to improve catch and shoot process. Not a break you down guard, needs to tighten handles. 1-2 defender, solid potential. Lacks explosiveness on both ends of the floor. Should be effective PnR

A prospect hard to focus on. He seems to have all the characteristics and intangibles to become a good rotational guard (playmaker from the bench maybe), but how his game will translate in NBA is difficult to know.

GS will have a lot of picks this draft and they will most likely try to find a gem in it. But with the no. 14 pick the get to select Maledon to boost their bench unit a bit. Theo is a really big guard that can run a second unit and with his defensive ability and passing he can play alongside GS''s shhoters quite easily
