Trey Alexander - Creighton (PG/SG - HT: 6’3” - WING: 6’10” - WT: 190 - A: 21y)

- A high floor versatile guard who can make an immediate impact for a good team
- Solid combo guard with decent size. not tall but really long
- Great shooter with an awesome middy and 3pt shot, though his percentage is down this year.
- Good screen navigator and very patient with the ball. Takes his time and finds his spots
- Worried about his space creation in isolation. He doesn’t play with a lot of shake
- Not a pass first guy, but can definitely make the right reads, especially in P&R, and get off some tough passes
- Really active on the boards, crashes after almost every shot. Has some huge rebounding games in the teens
- Solid defender with upside due to his length, activity, and hustle
- Has some very translatable skills and metrics. Long on- or off-ball guard who can shoot and rebound at elite positional levels, and defend and playmake at passable levels. A guy who should stick in a rotation
- Shades of bigger Gary Harris, Marcus Sasser, Donte DiVincenzo
- Best fit: ORL, MIA, ATL, TOR, CHA

STRENGTHS:

  • A very good three-level scorer who shot great in the mid-range (49% on 162 attempts last season) and can rise up for catch and shoot shots solidly (39.4% in his last two seasons)

  • His mid-range shots come within the flow of pick and roll offense, where he really began showing off an ability to release his shots at the highest points, which opens ups opportunities for good looking floaters and showed a great deal of playmaking in those situations

  • Throws accurate passes when he operates as a drive and kick player

  • Length and the ability to make plays defensively is solid due to his 6'10" wingspan

  • Decent enough rebounder who gives a requisite amount of effort there. If he isn't providing it on the defensively, you know he'll put that into offensive creation and rebounding

WEAKNESSES:

  • Only shot 27% on both pull-up and off-screen three pointers; since he won't be in this scoring role all the time, he will have to excel in other areas in a lesser role where he won't have the ball in his hands all the time

  • Only shot 53% on all attempts at the rim during his collegiate career; will need to improve his touch around the rim especially for when he does not have his shot going

  • He does not have a great ability to handle pressure; usually operates with some breathing room and does not react well to physical defenders and loses the ball against them. Combine that with his down finishing skills and you have a tough time finding a clear role for him

  • Not a lot of vertical or athletic pop to his game offensively or defensively; makes good plays with his hands but not with his feet, leaving him in foul trouble often

Best role upon entering the NBA: A development bench scorer who will operate as a mid-range maestro and a spot up shooter

Player Comparison: Shades of Andrew Nembhard and Josh Richardson

Pros: Not afraid to take a shot. Has a solid middy game. Handles screen with poise on D.

Cons: Numbers went down from last year. On ball D can be lackluster. Fouls kind of often.

Range: Mid 2nd-Return Age: Lil older. Aura: 6/10

Notes: Unique prospect has a long range. Maybe a return could help.

Trey Alexander has done a little bit of everything for Creighton this year. He is putting up good numbers offensively and is a very good defender for his position. I want to see his 3pt shot get better overtime, but nonetheless is a pretty complete offensive player. He is a great playmaker and I think will remain a point guard in the NBA. He is also an underrated rebounding guard which a lot of teams should be looking at more. He has a great motor and will be a good guard off the bench.

Comparison/Ceiling: I see shades of Gary Harris if he's able to up his 3pt shot, but Alexander has the playmaking upside that Harris doesn't really possess.
