Back to back NCAA champion - winner. Big guard who can play on or off the ball. Solid defender. Solid shooter. Gets to the rim at a good rate. Really poor shot selection at times. Great playmaker. Shades of Jordan Clarkson mixed with Andrew Nembhard.

The ever-steady game manager of a dominant championship team. NBA body and offers a player who will never quit at a marquee position. The translatability is questionable, but he won't go out without a fight.

  • Newton is a highly skilled veteran guard who can play a supportive role or take over a game when needed. He’s got good size for a lead guard at 6-5, is very shifty with crafty handles and clutch shot-making ability.

  • He looks like the type of player that could be a solid guard off the bench at the next level, providing depth play-making and scoring.

For reasons I can't totally explain, I have a hard time seeing his game translating. I think I feel like he lacks size and athleticism and any truly elite skills (his passing is probably close). It could just be because he never really wowed me when I watched UConn. I love the rebounding numbers for a guard, but he's not efficient enough for my taste, especially for a guy who's already 23.
