Bucks and Hawks Giannis trade w/Portland third wheel V2

FAILED

This is a follow up to a trade I made yesterday.

Hawks receive Giannis and Turner as well as GTJ and Murray to be small contract rotation players. it costs them JJ, Dyson, Hawks 27 with Bucks-NO swap, and just the swap from the 26 NO pick. (they keep the NO pick in 26) With Trae, Walker, Risacher, and Okongwu they probably need a buyout player to join the roster, but I think they become title favorites with a good big three and a couple good x factors. JJ is a big concession on their part, but one first, two swaps, and Dyson feels pretty fair for those two players and some cheap playable guys. they get to keep the No part of the big 26 first asset so this team would likely improve significantly over the off season. I think Giannis resigns when he sees how competitive this group is going to be. I don't think the Hawks can get much for Trae and this is the best way to leverage him in my opinion. starters are Trae, Walker, Risacher, Giannis, and Turner. with GTJ in at SG that's 4 very good shooters around Giannis. probably the best offense in the league or close.

Portland really empties the draft capital vault, but they do it for young players on good long contracts, the best possible assets for Portland. if this trade went through without Portland, the bucks wouldn't be bad with JJ and Dyson and the bucks draft capital would then be much less valuable, so even though I value it highly, and I don't think I would trade it in every instance, I think it's worth trading in this instance. I still think Scoot is going to be good so trading him is hard, but I think he is the piece that gets the trade over the line. they send a second to Chicago to pull the protections off the Portland pick they own, it will be up to Portland to then make the playoffs with this roster to make that not look like a bad idea, I think a Deni and JJ team with these supporting pieces makes the playoffs this year and is seriously competitive when everyone is healthy next year. I like Murray as a cheap rotation guy who is 6'8", plays some defense, and shoots some 3s, but he is valuable for that reason, so they sweeten the deal for the hawks with him. starters are Dyson, Camara, Deni, JJ, and Clingan. Sharpe can score 30 off the bench, Jrue can floor general off the bench, and good luck scoring against this team.

Chicago gets off of Williams for a different bad contract but a guy playing much better and take a second-round pick to pull the protections off of the pick Portland has owed them for years and years. the pick has been lottery protected so this is the best chance they will ever have for the pick to possibly have that kind of value and it gives all parties certainty about when it will convey for planning purposes. not super impactful for Chicago but I think it's all upside for them, even if it's not a lot of upside.

Milwaukee takes contracts that don't matter to them because they do this trade for the picks. 6 firsts and 4 swaps. the 4 swaps and the 29 from Portland all being Milwaukee's own picks giving them control of their destiny again. they take a flyer on Scoot and can decide if they want to sign him long term or not. all the things they did to try to keep Giannis get reversed in this trade so that they can start their rebuild immediately. in addition to their own draft capital, they get the Hawks 27 with the NO swap, the Orlando 28, and Portland's 28-30-32 firsts. getting their own picks and planning to be bad for two to four years will give them several bites at the draft lottery apple. they can get past the Dame wave and stretch, P will's contract, and let a significant amount of money fall off the books at the end of this year. I think they need to be bad. they will have options to get a great young player like JJ from several teams, but I think that just puts them into no man's land without their own picks and with cap restrictions they will frustrate the young player who will then also leave and now you are three years to five years down the road still needing to start over. better to fresh start now with a big package of draft assets and a young prospect in Scoot.

This is version 2 of this trade, feel free to look at the first version I posted yesterday https://fanspo.com/nba/trades/gjMOKklnHbiiZD; I am still looking for critiques and ideas of how to improve this trade. I think the Chicago stuff is a little raw and there is probably a better way to incorporate them, I do think they need to be in to free up the Portland draft capital. I still wonder if the Hawks give too much up, perhaps they could just give back the swap in 27 and keep their pick with the NO swap, although then I think the Milwaukee return feels light. let me know what you think.
